I’m new to forum owner of a QX56 (2004), getting ready to change my spark plugs...any insights or gotcha’s that could help me? One more question, what brand is recommended? I heard that this process could take several hours and some lost knuckle skin.

NGKs are used and are highly recommended.

check this tool out:

not sure what you have 'heard' but ive 'heard' and read across the internet its easy to do with the right tool (As above).

plugs last for 100K so are you over the 100K or approaching?

be careful of the coil heads. the screw you need (10mm) to loosen may become stripped if you dont have the proper head so be careful.

lots of info on how to change the plugs. search also for titans as they are the same engine and are made on the same line. same goes for the first gen qx (up to 2010).

Thank you very much.

Yes I have a little over 100K.

You mentioned coil head screws, are these screws or a combo screw / nut head, having the option to use either a screw driver or nut driver?

The tool link was very helpful.

hey just did mine a few months ago ... not bad but there are 8 so it will take probably longer then you think! you will need an extension on your ratchet and prepare yourself for being up in the engine compartment. A tip is to do one plug at a time and put something to protect your paint and grill.

If memory serves me they are bolts only ...
