2004 qx56 cruise control issue

Just picked up a clean 04qx56. Low miles. Issue cruise not working. Beeps and both dash lights come on but will not SET at any speed. Checked 2 fuses good. Never wrecked. I heard water can get in radar? Unit.
My question is a used radar unit the way to go? I assume you want to buy one still in mounting frame so no adjustments? 04 is to old to take to local stealership so would like a less expensive fix. Anything else I should check?

that old of a vehicle could have many things wrong. if the wheel hub sensors are off , that can cause an error, wiring issues, etc. have you checked the ecm for any trouble codes?

If the CRUISE is actively displaying on the dash but isn't setting at desired speed, it's most likely the cruise control release switch. That part, along with the brake light switch are located on top of the brake pedals assembly. The plunger and the contact leads inside do wear out over time and those are easily replaced. The cruise control release switch usually has a black/brown housing.
