Neither the brights or the regular beams work on the left side. I switched the bulbs to another vehicle and they both worked in the other car so the bulbs are not bad. I also put the bulbs from the other car in this one and they don't work in this car but work in the other car also. It's only the left side that won't come on. They were working intermittent last week. Any ideas?

Did you check your headlight control relay, its a little black box attached on the driver's side up near the fire wall, mind you it is a pain to get out. I had the same thing happening with my '93 j30 but it was the right headlight, and I took it to a shop, paid outrageously for a new column switch that they said I needed for it.That was not the problem, it was the control relay, you can order one online for $53.53 and have it the next day, mind that the tools your going to need are a ratchet, a 10mm socket, at least a 2 inch extension, and a flat head screwdriver to pull that sucker out. Don't worry about mounting the new one on, its so freaking tight in that spot, I didn't bother mounting mine, and its not going anywhere.
