Has anyone checked their oil when you had low miles? I did just looking around under the hood and filling the windshield washer fluid reservoir, any-hoo, its kinda dark for for only 1700 miles I think. Last time I looked at it was around 550 and it was quite clean and light colored.
anyone happen to know what came in it? Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil?
Maybe its synthetic?
I need to order some oil filters, I guess.
Let me know what you all see.
have a good one !

trio

the one on the right is the QX56 with about 1700 miles. The middle one is my 06 IS350, with about 2000 miles since I change the oil last. That is Valvoline synthetic 5w-30.
The blackest one on the left is the Cummins Turbo diesel in my Dodge Ram 2500, that is with a little over 2500 hundred miles Shell Rotella 5w-40. The diesel oil is black again after starting it up with fresh oil and running it seven
miles : ) It stays black.

So comparing to my IS 350, the QX is a little dark, but thats just me.
Let me know if you can see the pic.

Yeah I was disappointed with the pic, If someone could tell me how to attach or embed one in the message, that would be cool.
Let us know what your oil looks like Marctronixx, that will be interesting. I may change mine before the 3k 'freebee'.
Have a good one

Dread,

here is mine at 1048 miles:

great pic

Marc: That oil looks good, It has a brown tint which is always good.
Great pic too
I think your oil is in good shape. If I can get my wife to quit driving ours I need to get the oil filter number off it. Maybe the local nissan dealer has the filter.
Our QX only had 16 miles on it when we first drove it and picked it. I wonder my mine has changed color so dark?

dude, great pic too, I don't know how mind got attached at a thumbnail.
have a good one

thanks bro. use an online source like picasa or photobucket and you can embed the image instead of attaching. you can also use imageshack..

the qx i have had 9 miles on it and it was birthed in august 2011.

i tell ya, the plasmacluster system is amazing at automatically detecting and filtering out odors.. the car still smells like the first day i picked it up.

the whole dang car is amazing... :D

I agree , I was checking out the rear suspension, its very sophisticated and heavy duty. It also has a aluminum drive shaft. I have been shopping around to find a aluminum drive shaft for my Dodge Ram. If you have a good balanced aluminum one, it really helps out on drive train durability since its not as heavy as a steel one and that motor can spin it up quick !:)

I took the front skid plate off to see the oil filter location. Four 13 mm bolts hold the skid plate on. Oil will be a breeze to change. The filter is easy to get to and I don' t think it will need any ramps to raise it to get a drain pan under it. here is the oil filter number, so you can get one at your local Nissan dealer: Nissan oil filter 15208 - 31UOA.
Make sure you get one that says "made in Japan". from what I have seen on the other Nissan message boards, there are ones made in china, that have paper end caps to the filter and can collapse after a while. The 'made in Japan' ones are much better,
K&N oil filter part number is HP-101 and Mobile One oil filter is M1-110.

Have a good one !

Parrot,

thanks for sharing! i stopped changing my own oil once i went to the armada back in 2006. i had an 08 armada and now this qx.. :D

but yeah lots of cats can change the oil on these cars easily so you are in good shape.

let me ask you and others who are reading..

on the 2012 in the wheel well area, you can look right into the engine. it seems like there is a cover that should be there..

now with this car having the hydraulic motion system, perhaps nissan had to keep that part off.

i checked at two different dealers.. looked at the qxs in the lot and they all have a huge open section there...

am i masking sense? i guess its normal.. the armada had a little opening but it was not as big as this one. anyway just curious.. :D

wheel well opening

yeah man, there is a huge opening on each side on the front wheels. You can see the valve covers and the coils on the spark plugs !
All the 2011 QX's at the lot had the same dam opening. I thought they forgot a cover or flap as well. I mean they did so good on attention to detail on just about everything else, and fit and finish. Then there is this big hole at the inside of the front wheel wells where crap can be slung into the engine compartment !
I had already decided to not allow my wife to drive it on salty roads, and this was one of the main reasons.
Maybe they left it open for cooling, I don't know, but I agree it looks like something is definitely missing there.
I have been trying to think of something that could be used as flap and cut slits for the top of the 'A'-arm. Haven't come up with anything yet, Maybe someone will come out with aftermarket accessory for it?
I am glad it wasn't just me,
Have a good one!

yes im glad it wasnt just me either!

i cringe every time it rains because who knows what could get slung in there..the engine is all clean and virgin and i want to keep it that way.

and yes you see everything!! i also ASSumed it may have to do with venting heat..

im surprised no one else has mentioned it?

ooh well.. thank you for responding about this! i do feel better nonetheless..
