I'm new to the forum and seriously considering buying a '11 QX. What kind of MPG are you getting? I've noticed that Premium is recommended but not required, so does this mean that it's not harmful to use regular unleaded? I've owned a MB GL450 and it required premium. I used to alternate between premium and regular unleaded, and didn't notice any sort of performance issues. Thanks.

Mine's been pretty unimpressive so far...averaging 12-13mpg with about 50/50 city/highway. Will probably improve a little with time and mileage (I have under 2K miles right now). On paper, the 14/20 rated sounded decent...and I thought the mpg on my Lexus LX470 I traded in for the QX was bad (I was getting 13-14mpg on the LX470, but it was rated 12/15...so no surprises).

Best I've seen is 12/13. I am mostly city driving though. Also, whenever I hit the long drives, I'm usually towing 6,000 pounds. I can get 9/10 when doing so.

Over the Memorial Weekend drove the 680 mile roundtrip from LA to the San Francisco Bay in my 2011 QX56 w/7300 miles. Cruise was set for 75-78mph and fuel economy averaged 16.72 mpg on the way up and 18.55 on the return trip. There were 4 of us in the Q and the return trip also included a 385lb piece of granite.

I have gotten as much as 19.75 mpg on the 278 mile return trip from Mammoth Lakes (which overall is downhill) while averaging 17.5 mpg on the way up.

We have about 1500 miles on our QX and it's been averaging close to 16MPG (50-50 city/hwy driving). My wife is the main driver and she is pretty easy on the pedal. I calculate the mpg evertime I fill up, which is the most accurate way IMO.

We just traveled about 1,700 miles with 5 in the car and loaded with luggage and beach stuff - averaged 16.4 with cruise set at 78-79.

I have QX56 2011 4x4 I am only getting 15 MPG combine . I wish I can get at least 18 or 19 maybe because is still new and all parts is tide as of now I only have 900 miles on my QX . I have my on AUTO that what I was told to have better MPG . I love everything about this QX except MPG this is my first SUV so i need get use to :-)

We took a 1,000 mile road trip a few weeks ago. We were averaging 18-20MPG at 75-80 MPH on the highway. The QX is a cruise machine; it gets a little thirsty on local roads though:o. It's about par with any other 6,000 lbs. V8 SUVs out there. We had a MB GL450 that averaged about the same MPG as the QX, but this QX is much nicer IMO.

Thank you for your reply i will be happy if i can get that 18 or 20 on Hwy will let you know

2 weeks into my 2012 4x4 ownership. I was prepared somewhat for the mileage thanks to this forum. It is a bit disappointing given the official rating though. Using a GX470 as comparison, it is about 2 mpg worse all around. Given that it has 50% more HP though and is much larger makes sense. I noticed even slight grades make a huge difference. Up a very slight hill it will be in the low teens or single digits. Down that same slight grade it is in the mid 20's. Must be the weight.
Kind of strange I find myself driving this beast as if I'm trying to do some type of hypermileage with a hybrid.
Nothing better on the market for luxury transportation though.

Mileage and type of gas

I have been getting 18.5 on the highway, but around town only 10 mpg. I live on a hill, and it drops below 5 going up the hills, and they are not that big! It is hard to keep your foot out of the gas because the motor is so responsive and smooth. My car only has 1400 miles, so I hope it improves! I have also tried regular, as opposed to premium, gas and it does not seem to make that much difference in either mileage or in performance. What are the rest of you running?

Still love the car and the mileage is not that much worse than my old V8 4Runner.

Mpg

Highway Interstate driving in the fllat land around Charlotte NC, I am averaging about 20. When I get back home to the hills of Virginia, it drops to 17.5. That is definitely no 'jackrabbitt' starts.
Interesting note, the trip computer is close to figuring manually. I notice if you want to hear the motor sing, it drops to about 15, LOL.
That motor is something, its tuned just right:)
Oh yeah, Mid-grade gas, 89 octane. Have only used 93 octane a couple times. Not looking forward to $4 gallon next year.

i use 100 octane in my 2012 4X4 Q. using that compared to lower octane petrol is night and day.

i would advise AGAINST using anything less than 91 in this car. its designed for higher octane requirements due to a bit higher compression ratios and the overall build of the engine. using a weaker octane rated petrol will yield poor performance do to the retarded timing. also when the engine gets hot on those hot days and/or stop and go situations, the otane requirement for the engine will increase. using 89 or lower will increase detonation which causes knock which causes the ECM to adjust timing to prevent knock.

you paid a high price tag for this vehicle. dont start out the gate with lower than recommended petrol.

just my opinion. I am not an expert in petrol nor am i a nissan engineer. your mileage and views to this may vary.
