Hey guys! Did any of you do a transmission fluid change? If so, at what mileage? I bought my 2012 qx56 with 96k miles and now have 130k miles. I don’t know if transmission fluid was ever changed before I bought it (planning on calling dealer to find out). Is it worth touching that fluid? Will I have issues with transmission if I do fluid change? Thanks

hi,

when did you purchase? was it from an infiniti dealer or 3rd party? can you pull any car history from the VIN? is it AWD? has HBMC?

if you have no records, id replace ALL fluids regardless, as well as plugs and coil packs.

I bought it 2 years ago from Infiniti dealer. I have no car history but I’m sure I can call Infiniti and get it through the vin number. Yes it’s awd And no HBMC. I just replaced plugs couple weeks ago.

im not a mechanic but a good rule of thumb would be to change those fluids out, as you dont know how well the car was treated/maintained prior to your purchase. i had all my fluids done at the dealer and never had any issues with that process. i think i had my fluids done every 2 years.

At what mileage was it done?

i had a 2012 qx fully loaded - did what the maintenance book suggested. i did the changes every 2 years.

Are the 2011+ transmissions DIY serviceable? Just looking to do a drain/fill.

It is serviceable but definitely not as simple as it is on the WA60/JA60s. Those had a ATF dipstick plugged into the filler tube.
On our Z62s, you'll need more than just a a socket or two. A couple things needed; an ATF filler adapter, like the CTA Tools 7425 that threads into the drain/fill hole of the transmission pan. An ATF filler pump (some are sold with Nissan/Infiniti adapters) because of the pressure needed to push the ATF back into the pan/transmission.

Thanks! I plan on using Valvoline Maxlife synth.
