Gentlemen, just a quick not to introduce myself, I came from the JX forum and just traded for a 2012 QX56. I was known for many modifications I made to the JX including LED installs into the bumper, and interior of the JX. I also replaced the factory fogs with Hella Halogen lights. I will be duplicating the installs with the QX56 if anyone is interested. I look forward to sharing info with you all.

Welcome aboard. Hope you'll enjoy the increased size of the new truck!

Welcome to the forum. I would like more info on the foglight upgrade as well as the other non HID/LED lights in the headlight housing. I have a 12 qx.
I installed hid kits in my fogs and they would not come on. I would appreciate any help. Pics are always welcomed!

Marctronixx "supposedly" converted his fogs to HID or LED I forget. However he has failed to produced pics to prove his work actually occurred.
You guys know the rule: If you don't have pics it didn't happen. :)

Also the bulbs in the vanity mirrors? What led to replace them? Those are the only ones I have not replaced yet.

Great questions

Wow...thankyou for the nice reception. My QX is Black and I have already installed LED s in the interior and headlight parking lights. I am really big on posting pics so those are coming. The LED's needed for the map lights are T-10 SMD's. The rear cargo needs "festoon" LED's and I believe the vanity mirrors are also "festoon". ( I admit I forgot about the vanity mirrors !) Pics will follow this weekend of my current mods,

Your'e right..if no pics..it didn't happen ;-) Keep in mind, LED fogs look cool...but they do NOT put out good light output on the road. My Hella upgrade put out 30% more usable light on the road. The JX HID's are HORRIBLE! Everyone knows that that owns a JX...very dim. My Hella fix solved it....for under $100.00 bucks. When I get to that mod..I will post pics.

i have no reason to lie about any of this.

LEDs in the fogs are recommended over HIDs. HIDs produce too much heat for that small space and can cause a little brown mark right in the center where the HID discharge is centered.

HIDs, LEDs, filament lamps all "look cool". On average, HIDs put out more power over LEDs but LEDs will produce plenty of output for road use. Just dont get green, purple, etc looking lamps. That really junks the overall look of this luxury ride.

my opinion of course and we all have our own.. :)

Since the OP loves to post photos, ill let him have the floor. ;)

Marc..I kid of course..I am too new to fire off jokes ;-) I am sure you did your mods as you say. I am just very visual and like to post pics. The Hella install I refer too are simply halogens...with upgraded Xenon bulbs. Anyway, I am not a know it all..just someone who has been on different forums for over 16 years with a lot of knowledge on DIY on japanese cars.

Bought my wife a QX today

Bought a 2012 AWD CPO for my wife today, nice unit. Liquid Platinum with the Graphite interior, 7 pax, Entertainment and 22' Wheel Package. Local unit with perfect service records......hopefully all goes well.

In reading the timing chain problems on this board, I was hesitant for quite some time to buy one. Spoke with 3 different Infiniti dealers and they all said they've never heard of it.....for whatever that's worth.

The CPO covers everything of importance to 100k miles. I've thought about the Elite extended plan, but Infiniti's way of doing an extended plan is asinine. When I've purchased a vehicle and an extended plan before - the plan started on the date it was purchased. Apparently Infiniti's plan starts on the date the vehicle first sold - so essentially all I would get out of it beyond the CPO 100k I have is another 20k miles. All for the price of $3k.

So I'm wondering, has anyone purchased an outside plan that starts on the date it's purchased?

If so, which one is "good", and how much does it cost? We plan on keeping this unit for 5-7 years, so I'd really like to have something to meet our longer term needs and I don't have to worry about stuff.

Also, do different dealerships charge different prices? Can I call a bunch of dealers until I find the best price if I ended going up with Infiniti's Elite plan?

Thanks

I used Infinity of Scottsdale. My local dealer couldn't come close to the price.
Courtney did a great job. Check around to see if there are any better deals.

The Infiniti Elite Protection Plan will start the day you purchase it and the mileage allowance will be added to what is currently on your odometer (so if you have 45k and you go with a 60/60 you will be covered until 105k miles or 5 years from now). The deductible will not kick in until your original 48mo/60k warranty has expired and the deductible is per visit not per item repaired. Infiniti requires an inspection and verification of the odometer prior to issuing the policy, so please call or email me for the details. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the Infiniti Elite Protection Plan. Thanks again and have a great day.

You could have gotten the wrap and extended your coverage to 8yr/120k...the wrap turns the CPO warranty into the Infiniti Elite. You can only purchase the wrap from the dealership that CPO'd it. That the cheapest route you can take and it's still going to be expensive.

I don't like how Infiniti adds time and mileage at the date and mileage that you purchase it. Also it get more expensive with the mileage...every 10k it goes up.

First off, hope things are good with your ride.

From how I understood it, the Elite would have ended up only adding 20k miles above the CPO's 100k - for 3 grand. 20k miles for 3 grand seems like a total rip off. If it added from today forward versus from the in-service date, then it would be worth it.

The dealership warranty guy is getting back to me tomorrow, don't really see much of a benefit in this at this point.

Am I understanding how this works?

The wrap covers some items the CPO doesn't. He should have been able to give you a brochure to show the additional things covered by the wrap. CPO is 6yrs/100k....the wrap can extended it all the way to 8 yrs/ 120k.

Ended up buying the 8/120 wrap for some measure of piece of mind. Based on these issues on here, I thought it was the only way to go. That, and I'll get rid of the vehicle before either the years or mileage is attained.

My Silver Beast!

Bought the beast last summer to tow our new trailer. Tought camping was cheap...

3 trucks and 2 trailers in 3 years...

Beast is a 2011 base model. The oem 20 inch wheels are for winter duty.

I bought some 22X9.5 ET15 KMC Slide with 305/45 tire. Ride is excellente and wheels are flush with the body for a wider look.

I put some plasti dip on the front grill and vents, some led H8 lights in the fogs and put a K&N filter in it.

Here some pics.

Now THAT'S an introduction! Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. It looks REALLY good blacked-out. I'm a "chrome" lover but that looks really good. The QX is one of the most plush full-size luxury SUVs on the market.

Thanks!

I wanted to remove all the chrome but way to much job.

Love it a lot, will keep it for 3 or 4 years.

Anyway, what other big SUV can do better than the QX for towing the trailer and moving around with style. Their only 2 other QXs in our area. Kind of rare here in quebec,Canada.

The Lexus LX (essentially being a Toyota Land Cruiser) is right up there and pretty much the most luxurious full-size SUV there is (comfort-wise) - but way over-priced in my opinion - and a little down in power compared to the Infiniti. The Escalade is a monster but the build quality and interior are certainly not up to par with Infiniti and Lexus.

In my case, the wheelbase was also important. The Escalade wheelbase was 5 inch shorter. The Escalade ESV was longer but also to long for my garage... A warm place in important here with all the snow and cold weather.

Yeah, the size is really good with the QX. Right in between the Escalade and Escalade ESV. There's really no need for an extended wheelbase QX...
