Ok... last few days (after I did my knock knock knock about the timing belt issue).... I'm starting to hear a whining noise from the engine region. Sound like a Remote Control (RC) car whirling by........... someone assure me this isn't what the timing belt issue sounds like!!!:eek:

I would have it checked out.
How many miles?

I was told it would be an unmistakable sound if and when it occurred on mine after reading all of the threads and discussion about it happening to others.

Keep us posted.

Uh oh...hopefully it's just a little belt whine but take it in ASAP and have them document your concern.

And please keep us posted. GL!

Don't drive that thing anywhere. Get it towed to the dealer. Hopefully if this is the first time you have heard the dreaded whine they may be able to just replace the timing chain. If you drive it it could cause them to have to replace the engine. $4,000 vs $17,000. Welcome to the I've been screwed by Infiniti Club.

I have 82K on the truck....

Plus I've noticed when it's cold out and I go over a speed bump, I hear the creaking sounds of the shocks/springs...like a mattress spring... I wonder if the knees (shocks/springs) are going bad??!

Have you had it looked at?

Have you found anything out yet Roughyear ? Hope its a accessory belt and not the timing chain.
Going for a 300+ mile ride this evening in mine tonight. That heater works pretty good in the QX. It does warm-hot very good, like a little wood stove in there if you need it. Thank goodness !

Keep us posted
Have a good one

nah... nothing yet. swamped at work. I have an appointment next week.

the sound isn't too loud; I can't hear it if the radio is on, but it is there, especially if it's cold outdoors

Ugghhh.....just saw your reply with the knock knock in the other thread, I hope that isn't the case for you. Please update when you find out what's going on.

In one of these timing chain threads, someone had posted a video with the noise. Maybe find that one and compare.

Best of luck.....

I know the feeling...I bought this truck to be our family hauler on trips. Now I feel nervous at times about taking a long one. We took our truck on an 1,000 mile trip the week of thanksgiving which was 4 days after getting it back from the dealer due to CEL and having the Catalytic converter and O2 sensor replaced. I really wish they would issue aa recall like Lexus did with thier valve spring and VVT noise.

Sorry to hear that.

It's stuff like this, in spite of the consideration of buying an extended warranty - that I'm very hesitant to buy one of these. Beautiful machines, but when you're paying a pretty penny - you sure as heck shouldn't have to be worried about driving it on a long trip (like an earlier poster) nor have to worry about dealing with this major of a problem.

I wish you the best of luck.

Well.....took The Beast in for servicing yesterday, and sure nuf it's the freckn timing chain. Dealer has to order the set, which apparently will take about 2 weeks to get... told me to drive it and that there should be no issue with The Beast... told them if the motor goes, they're paying for a full replacement, not I... they were certain it wouldn't be an issue.

The crazy whinning noise only seems to be happening at first start up and seems to subside once The Beast is warmed up.

I'll keep you guyz informed.

Wow!!! Keep driving it? I would have had major issues with my service manager. For the safety of my kids and my wife I would have demanded a loaner. I would have gotten that in writing. I hope it doesn't get worse! Keep us posted...this is sad...

When a timing chain is verified that it's going out or due to permanently fail you should cease driving it immediately! This will only cause additional damage to other parts in the engine such as the valves. Not to mention leaving one stranded.

I can't believe this dealerships service department told you that. Please do keep us posted.

Is it odd for the sound to go away after the engine has warmed up??

I experienced the same sound that went away after warm up. I had it in the shop for the timing chain right away. Dealer was great. No issues. Took 4 days to get it back. I kinda liked driving the loaner they gave me. LOL

Spoke with the dealer, he's gonna take it in on Monday.. will keep y'all posted. If it breaks down or fires the engine, they owe me a new engine... I'm not sweating it.

Another one bites the dust. I had mine replaced under warranty at 52,000 miles. Infiniti fought me and was not going to cover it because they said I didn't change the oil enough. I came up with receipts for oil changes done outside of the dealer and they stood behind it.
