Navigation update

Mind sharing the link? I see the original link has it for $129, which is $50 off.

Crazy!!! I just ordered this last week and got it for $99. It's now listed as $129. I'm very happy with the update which actually changes the way the nav unit works, not just the maps. The voice is better, the prompts are shorter now and you don't have to wait or push the button. It also seems the heavy traffic indicators are much easier to read. That could be me though.

It appears the $99 deal is gone.
When I got mine it would not go through via the website. I had to call Infiniti even then the jerk on the other end did not want to give me the deal, he wanted me to pay $129 but $99 was still up on the website and I was politely persistent about getting the $99 price and I did. They would not however give me the free shipping because I did not buy using their website, ....that didn't work...

You might call up Iand raise cane saying you tried but their website would not work so you should get the $99 price anyway. Your odds of getting it are 50/50 and the worse thing is they will say is no and you can always opt out anytime during the call.

I wonder, if you also have a 2011 G37x with The premium and navigation packages and used my disc's and password if it might work??
If your in MA we can give or a try...for a ser. charge fee of course

Thanks, that is the way it goes. Day late and a dollar short! I will keep an eye out or make a decision to just pay the $129.00. I bought my QX56 used and don't think it has been updated since new. So I am sure any update would make it better.

these discs are licensed for use on ONE HU, not multiple, so no they wont work, it should fail on first attempt on the unlicensed HU.

Have you personally tried it?
I'm sure that's what Infiniti wants you to think and it may very well be that way but unless you have personally gave it a go.. You don't know.
If someone close wants to give it a try I'm game, no ser charge unless it works, maybe not then if she's cute, or at least polite
Never know until you try!!

i dont need to personally try it. the HU asks for the CODE you got from the receipt (email). this code is the code to your SPECIFIC HU's device ID number. whatever number you give in the initial order, that the code/number that gets burned into the discs, so when you put them in, the disc has this code burned into it.

nothing is impossible mind you, so one could possibly get the discs, clone them and add any info into the TOC on the DVD to match up with a specific HU, but what you are suggesting will not work.

To help me understand ... we are attempting to circumvent the $99.00 purchase of a navigational update when we paid how much for our 2011 or newer QX56?

LOL True.^
I did the upgrade, while driving down I -77 through NC. Wife did the CD swap. Only glitch was when it wanted the license key from the paper that came with the CD's that was at home on teh kitchen table !
We scrambled to look on the phone to look in email to see if it was in the confirmation purchase email, it was. But it had timed out and when we put the CD 2 in, again it would never prompt for the license key anymore. It was greyed out. So we took a chance and pulled over to the side at an exit and shut the engine & QX down for two minutes. Fired back up, put CD 2 in and it prompted for the license key :D LOL entered it in and rolled through the other three cds like clock work. It was tense in the QX for a bit, but we worked through it. LOL

The update puts small buttons on the right side of the screen right below the arrow that supposedly points North. One button is for Icons and the other is for scale miles. I can't seem to get them off the screen even after you choose the icons and scale. The screen is small I would like to see the map.
If you all figure out how to move them off, please let me know. Other than that it looks like the original. This is the first update I have done, I wasn't going to update it, but the wifey kept on, kept on, I gave in.

It didn't affect the weather maps that I can tell (good).
Have a good one

I am not aware of anyone trying to circumvent anything, I asked a question around the price and having the option to get in on the promotional price. To me I take it as someone offering to see if it would work if it did, great then all good. If not no harm no faul because both parties knew it may or may not.

I can appreciate that everyone has paid a premium for their QX56. But just because they have paid whatever price, this has no impact on how someone should or shouldn't spend their money. If anything the topic should be from the perspective of legality of using something and trying to resell.

But I am not a lawyer and that doesn't impact me since it wasn't something I was looking at as an option.

OK back to the topic,

Is the update more responsive or quicker at moving through the prompts using voice?

yes the update is more snappier and quicker. the voice assistant uses less words to ask you what you want. others have posted earlier in this thread what they have noticed in the update. its worth the cost.

How does the Nav CD know what the actual Nav unit ID is?? It's not a computer, its just a reader. To me, the CD KEY is like Microsoft's Windows CD.. you need a valid key to install it on a computer... it a logarithm that the program recognizes as a valid key to install Windows, not a valid computer to be install on too.

i have posted a couple of times how the verification process works here.

ill repeat. :D

when you PLACE an order, you MUST give the website the DEVICE ID from your HU.

this device id is then burned into the disc.

when you insert the disc, it verifies the DEVICE ID from the HDD in the system.

then you enter the passcode the email generates to you.

if the DEVICE ID thats BURNED into the disc does not match the DEVICE ID thats on your cars HDD, the install stops right there.

ive been doing these HDD updates since 2008 (on the armada)

there are ways around everything and its not totally impossible to circumvent this check and balance system, but you do need to understand you need the DEVICE ID on the disc to match the DEVICE ID thats in the firmware of the HDD, plus you need a generated code you enter that has NEVER been used before and has a key that is based off the DEVICE ID. clever and easy way for nissan to protect their investment in this process.

clear as mud? :p

Yup... all about the "money" with the auto makers. I'll update as soon as the price drops back down to $20 bucks. Do they ever sell the previous editions for super cheap.... yup, I'm super cheap, except to my kids, whereupon I spend all my change on them.

Does the 2014 version include the newer sounding voice you speak of Marc for the earlier year update?

I'll be purchasing it here shortly.

Thank you

yes it does. i use the female voice (have not used the male voice) setting and she speaks more human like over the past versions.
