Like the thread states, what exactly does this switch do? It's the collapsible one, operated by closing the hood, next to the coolant reservoir and battery. I tested voltage both open and closed with no result. Any help would be appreciated.

For the alarm system maybe? Do you have an auto start? Autostarts have hood switches that prevent the vehicle from starting when working with the hood open. Just guesses

Is it one of those "door open" switches/indicators if the hood is not closed all the way down? Just guessing

Activates a light under the hood?

Activates a light under the hood?

Can't find a light socket under the hood. Actually I want to use this switch to to activate an LED strip light that I want to install. But with the voltage activated only with the switch pressed, I gotta figure another way or rig it to where it works with the strip light, IF it's not in use.

If you are saying it sees voltage when depressed and grounds when not I would guess it is the Security hood switch.

The vehicle security system will be triggered once the system is in armed phase,
● when BCM receives a ground signal at terminals 12, 13, 47, 48 (door switch), terminal 42 (glass hatch ajar
switch) or terminal 43 [back door latch (door ajar switch)], or IPDM E/R terminal 41 (hood switch) receives a ground signal.

I've got an '02 and my manual shows that switch is wired the "Smart Entrance Control Unit". The manual says that the alarm won't set if that switch is not closed.

yeah as mentioned its for the hood switch. if you mess with it, it will confuse the system alarm (standard) and possibly throw codes.
