Drove my car this morning and the brake light is on and the brakes are grinding... I pulled over and turned off the car and turned it back on and the light went away and the brakes werent grinding anymore... What does this mean?

This means that the brake pads are wearing down to bare metal. You can buy breakpads for around £20 from a garage or Halford store. A garage shouldn't charge too much for this, but best you get them done sooner rather than later as if they get down to bare metal then they will grind on your brake discs and cause them to have a lip on them. If this happens you will need new brake discs also.
Hope this helps

This DOES NOT mean the brake pads are wearing down. Thousands of people are having defective issues with their brakes and I am one of them.

I am posting and reposting this on as many forums I can find.

I have had the same problem with my vehicle, 2006 Infiniti QX56. After becoming fed up that the Infiniti dealer cannot diagnose the problem I have taken upon myself to report it to the NHTSA & US Dept of Transportation. They have had a lot of complaints about this problem already. The more that are brought to their attention the more likely they are to make a ruling for a recall.

It only takes a few minutes to fill it out. Let's get Infiniti to fix the problem once and for all!!

Please file your complaint here:

There is a class action lawsuit going on right now for a couple in California. If ruled in their favor it may only apply to CA residents. Let's make some noise!!

What ? I tell you what 'Michelle V', if you are near Virginia, why don't you pick up a 12 pack of beer and bring your QX by the house and we'll check those brake pads:D We'll change them if needed.
I don't think we need any 'class action' BS.
geesh

where?

Hey roughyear, I'm down here in Southwest VA , south of Roanoke.
Are you in Virginia ? I have seen a few QX's around (newer models). One up near Waynesboro, and one down near Bristol.
Are your brakes squeaking ? LOL
Have a good one

DC area for me... nah, brakes are fine.

I just replaced my first set of tires at 63000 miles... dealer was shocked, he thought it was my 2nd set already. They made no mention of my brakes needing anything. I am starting to feel a little shimmy when I brake, probably rotors are warping slightly.

@rough,

did you replace with the same model tires that came with the car? If you are open to sharing, what was the cost and did you get them from infiniti?

subscribed for future reference on the tire info as well. Just shy of 50k on mine and I'm certain I can get that on these tires before replacing but want to start looking now at all options….
