[2011+] Remote start options

whoooaaa.... good find punish! this is most likely the system i have seen thats been installed on Qs using the factory fob...

I'll have to call the installer to find out. Give me couple of days and I'll post the results.

Ok, here is what I have...
Please keep in mind that all of this was arranged by the dealer and included in the negotiated purchase price. Installer came to my house, hence why I wasn't sure what parts were installed or the price. I have all of the info now, including the price and if you guys are interested I will gladly provide their contact info. They service MD, Southern PA, and North VA. They also have a location in CA.

Model: Automate Am6.2
Bypass module: De-Dball
Prewired relay (optional component). Some cars require it and some cars do not. Apparently QX needs it.
349.00 installed. Lifetime warranty.
My wife is able to use the factory key fob and start the vehicle by pressing the lock button 3 times. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hope this helps.

I'd like to know the name of the company that installed it. I'm in Los Angeles, CA. Thanks.

The company I used (referred to by the dealer and paid for by the dealer) is one of the installers for Directed. Their local number in MD is 443-609-4459. Please call them and they'll provide a number of their CA office.
As I have stated, I have Automate installed and it can definitely be programmed for your factory FOB.

Does anyone know of a location in Vegas that would be recommended for installing a remote start? The dealer here clearly wanted nothing to do with it.

Thanks.

Paul

I would try any of your local remote start installers such as Best Buy. I'm fortunate in that the local Best Buy here has techs that work for GM and Ford during the week and are absolutely incredible. While they didnt install the remote start on my 12 I previously owned they did install a viper unit on my 05 silverado which everyone said could not be done and they have programmed all kinds of cool things to happen very similar to what the newer models do based on ambient temp.
Best advice is call around. Someone in your area will know what to do. Earlier in this thread Jricka left his email address. He no longer works at my local Infiniti dealer but I'd bet he can point you in the right direction regarding the best remote start to use, bypasses, etc. They were installing several of these daily prior to the ex's coming with them standard. It was a part of their service package offering.

the techs at best buy are a roll of the dice. best to hit up a custom shop that knows its way around NISSANs.

Normally I would totally agree with that statement Marc but the custom shops around here are a bunch of hacks. The very last place I would ever take one of my vehicles to based on previous experiences and the experiences of others. If there is one thing that would be considered a bonus to using a store like Best Buy it is that their work is warrantied for the life of the product and the work can be done at any Best Buy if any future work is needed. You won't ever get that from a custom shop. Hell you would be lucky to get the initial install right and don't even bother going back if something isn't right.
I had a local custom shop install a Pioneer radio in my Silverado. Took the guys at Best Buy an entire day to fix the mangled mess I paid for the custom shop to do but they took the time and literally went through every single wire until it was perfect. You might not find that kind of service at every Best Buy but you certainly won't find it at every custom shop.
Those days are long gone my friend.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Went to Best Buy today and they told me they'd have to remove my alarm, couldn't use my fobs, and that the keyless entry would be gone. :). I laughed and politely thanked them for their time before walking out. I will keep searching.

I was in my local Infiniti dealer today for my first service of the 15 and totally forgot to ask them about this issue.
I will call them tomorrow and find out what they are installing.
I will update the thread with what I find.
Sorry the Best Buy option didn't' work out for you.

I don't see why Infiniti didn't just make the remote start backwards compatible. All they needed to do was make a stand alone module instead of integrating it into the BCM or whatever controls it. They really make me scratch my head at times. They have damn near a new component every year the SUV has been out!

Thanks KC. Look forward to hearing what you find out. My QX is being shipped to me in Vegas from FL, so I have about a week before I even get to sit in it. :)

there are some infiniti dealers around the country that will do this. i know a cat who has a 2011 (purchased in 2011) and had the remote start done in one of the new england states. he called several dealers and many did not know what he was talking about or stated it could not be done. one dealer said is was a liability reason as to why that particular shop could not do it.

it just comes down to the tech being knowledgeable about the nissan CAN system in the 2011 (its different in the 2010 and earlier models). there is even a setting the CONSULT II can reach in the sub programming in the CAN system on these cars that can activate the remote start by "I-Key".

I would think now many more infiniti shops will be willing to do this at a premium, however not every infiniti shop will have the knowledge, so call around.

worse case 3rd party/custom shops can easily do it. dont let anyone tell you that you need to leave a fob in the car--that was for the earlier 2010 and below models. no need for that in the later models.

I'm going to certainly keep searching. No room for this in my garage, and here in Vegas getting the AC going before getting in is a must!

The version they are using in Ann Arbor, MI is made by Viper. No external fobs. Uses the oem fobs by clicking the lock button three times. Engine runs for 10 minutes before it times out. A second session can be performed but has to be started normally after that if I recall.
Does not kill the engine when you open the door. When you enter the car you tap the Push to Start button a couple of times to cycle the ignition on BEFORE touching the brake. Touching the brake prior to will kill the engine as this is the killswitch to keep someone from stealing it while running in remote start. Only annoying part I found. Otherwise worked flawlessly for the 3 years I had the vehicle and to be honest better than the factory remote start on my 15. I don't think the 15 has near the range the 12 had but to be totally truthful I haven't fully tested that yet. I will soon.
I hope this helps. I would strongly suggest just giving them a call and talking it over with them. 734-669-9000.
You can tell them I sent you from this forum if you would like. I don't get any perks for it but it may help them understand who they are dealing with. Tony is their guru there and is who you will want to speak with. Don't be surprised if he has to call you back. The kid stays up to his ears in projects. Price you pay for being one of the best in the business.
Keep us posted.

I hate to beat a dead horse but after some help from a friend, it's seems that he thinks the wire harness is the same for the OEM factory remote start but the FCC ID and IC numbers are different for the intelligent key for 2011-13 vs 2014+. If that's the case I would assume that the frequency of the radios are different. If that's true which module does the intelligent key communicate with? I was thinking about buying those items off a wrecked QX80 and giving it a shot.

I'll take one for the team...not ready to buy a new one...my kids have to get older...no more car seat intentions in the leather...lol

may have remote start?

i recently purchased a 2011 qx56 loaded with just about every accessory except for the crossbars. the dealer gave me two keys. i found a third in the glove compartment in a little pouch. it unlocks and starts the car just like the other 2 keys. i was hoping that it had something to do with a remote start. after searching i read that there is a way to program remote start with our vehicles. this may be a long shot but how do activate the remote start. thanks.
