Hello there, I am a new owener of a 2011 QX56 and I am loving the Vehicle so far. I have a question. When I reverse or activate the camera,on my 2011 QX56, on the right hand 360 degree Top view I get a "BOX" icon instead of a "Vehicle" icon. I noticed that every one else has the vehicle icon in the 360 degree TOP view. How do I change it to a Vehicle icon?? Any suggestions or response would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem

Metallic; just got my 2011 back from body shop- replaced driver outside mirror as part of the body work. I now get the box rather than the normal view on the right side of display. All cameras seem to work. Body shop cannot figure out. Hopefully someone here can offer advice. No Infiniti dealer in my town.

Here is the pic in Drive.

I have attached a picture of the Rectangular box in Drive.

Have you been in contact with any Infiniti dealership, who may be able to provide some over-the-phone guidance as to what has happened?

Wondering if their is an option under settings to set the 'view'. It may have to be reset, similar to when one disconnects the battery cables, all settings are lost until reset.

I've taken the liberty of forwarding the above photo and a brief description of the issue to two local Infiniti dealerships in my area and will report back once I hear anything.

I was finally able to get an answer from my dealership. The Service Adviser, who has been around for awhile, quickly replied that it sounded like one of the cameras has gone bad/out or it may only need to be re-calibrated.

There is a camera on the external side view mirrors. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to order one and an attempt made to DIY. As far as re-calibrating .. I'm not sure what equipment is used or what is done to do accomplish this.

The second dealership just responded and confirmed, "this occurs when the system is needing to be re-calibrated after a mirror or camera disconnection of any kind has occurred". The Service Adviser from this particular dealership is also checking into if it's a DIY item or if both of you will need to visit the closest Infiniti dealership.

I hope this helps and please let us know what you decide to do or have done, so others may benefit from this post.

Thanks grillmaster. That makes sense as my mirror was replaced and the problem appeared. Unfortunately the closest dealer is about 120 miles.

late to the party but yes when you install a camera, unplug/remove any of the 4 cameras, they will need to be recalibrated. looking at yours, your front cam is the one in question. the "X" will appear on the camera that is "unmatched" with the system. if all cameras have "X" on them ten they all need to be recalibrated. Infiniti does this (box instead of car) so you know there is something that needs attention on the camera system. So in the above photo, the front cam is "unmatched" with the rest of the system.

The camera sonar system needs the Consult III to write the data to memory and check for any DTCs or other information that you cant get just by starting up the diag mode. Plus you need to have measurements on the street/shop floor to measure the distance so that when the birds eye view program activates, you will get the most accurate image. otherwise you may get distorted images which will render the system unreliable.

It its best to have the Wrench (shop) handle this as it is quite involved to get all the cameras back into align.

there is a diag mode that lets you see the cameras and even get in to adjust them, but as i mentioned you need to put markers down and they have to be a certain distance apart, etc.

The QX56 is currently at the Infiniti dealership near by. They are re-calibrating the camera system and they gave me a loaner vehicle for the time being. Thanks for your help guys. Have a good day.

AV-112 page in the PDF file goes over calibrating the camera system. I am replacing my front grille soon and going to let the dealer recalibrate the system at my tune up. Hope this helps.

12/24/19 - Or you could do it for free by going into your hidden menu like I just did:

Consult III Nissan Tool

OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine.
2. Turn the audio system off.
3. While pressing the “SETTING” button, turn the VOLUME CONTROL control dial counterclockwise 30 clicks or more. And then got to "cameras". You can reset them there.

This absolutely worked! I had the gray boxes with an “X” symbol in between and holding the settings while counter clockwise turning the vol knob worked I was able to calibrate my cameras and get them boxes out. Thank you so much!
