I have been looking at the new QX 2012 and noticed the speakers are average at best. Has anyone upgraded the speakers?
 
2011 QX56 has 13 Bose speakers .. I'm overwhelmed with how well mine sounds. Mind you I'm not a sound engineer, don't know much about speaker systems and am easily pleased. Perhaps there may be something else out there that out performs the current Bose system.
 
same here on my 2011, I'm quite impressed with the BOSE system and enjoy listening to it over our Caddy's BOSE system.
 
WOW... how can u say it's "average"... mine rock. I get into my wife's VW and they sound tinnie and weak. Mine sound like i'm at the darn concert.

the 2012 has 15 and adds an extra sub woofer.

i burn vids and watch them in the car and the system is amazing. sound quality is superb and the surround sound settings are a nice touch. bose (C) centerpoint works well.

the overall system is not whiny or wimpy. much better than average.
 
So does the '12 have more speakers than the '11? I wasn't aware they upgraded the audio.
 
yes the 12 adds an additional subwoofer an its part of the touring package i believe. the 11 only has one sub. you also get bose centerpoint which is much better than drivers sound stage. uses a different algorithm to give a better surround sound experience.

CORRECTION: the 12 model adds TWO additional drivers (speakers)

Enhancements for the 2012 model year include the addition of Blind Spot Intervention™ to the Technology Package, the addition of the Bose® Cabin Surround® sound system with 15 speakers (two additional for 2012) to the Deluxe Touring Package, the addition of heated second row seats and remote tip-up second row seats to the Theater Package (from the Deluxe Touring Package) and the addition of headlight washers to the QX56 2WD Deluxe Touring Package. In addition, the 22-inch Wheel Package (introduced in late 2011) carries over to 2012.

Thanks for all the responses; I assume most have the standard not the upgraded sound system which comes with touring package. It is a great SUV and we are in the process of getting one.
 
who is most? the 12s offer this upgraded system standard with the package. unless i am missing your point.. which is quite possible.. :D

what i mean is all 12's and up have this upgraded sound system. so if you get the theater pack on the 12 and up, you will get this newer system. it was not offered on the 11's...
 
The touring package has additional speakers and decoder which is considered an upgrade package.

btw, I realize there is a USB connector. I assume, I can fill out a USB card with sounds and play it directly.

How about movies in various formats (MP4, AVI, MKv, etc)?
 
the USB is a great way to play music, photos and videos.

the system only does certain formats, .avi, divx. it does not recognize .mov .m4a. there is a complete list in the operators handbook.

I'm to lazy to get out the owner's manual... can I plug/play an ipod on the 2011??
 
Has anyone ever try to play movie files like, avi through the USB or The DVD? I try and did not work for me.
 
yes, you can I put 10s of movies on a 16gig USB card for my kids. the only converter I got to work was Avs4you (search and you will find it). the format types supported (see attached file)
