I don't normally jump on to forums or write letters of appreciation however, I am inspired to do so after the purchase of my M37x

I was torn between the X and S package but I think I made the right choice with the X. Considering we live in the type of environment that sometimes requires traction, I went with the X and reluctantly swayed away from the V8.

So for my 2 cents worth..... I've been driving for 2 weeks and 1200k later, I'm still impressed. The vehicle gives me a sense of luxury and elegance mixed with a feel of power and responsiveness to various road conditions. I'm still shy of playing with the manual shifting but there are features on this vehicle that are very drive inspiring.

This puppy hit 200 like it was nothing
The automated brake assist and lane change warning system gives me a feel that the car is with working with me. It gives me a snug feeling, not too much constraint but just enough to feel like I'm being hugged by the cabin, sort of like the cockpit of a lear.

Last year I started test driving vehicles from the 5 series BMW to the E series Benz but something always attracted me to the body type of the G series Infiniti.
3 weeks ago I walked into the showroom to take one final look at the G when I came upon the M. It took me less than 30 minutes to dismiss all my research when I sat behind the wheel of the M.

Everything was in comfortable reach, the dash is intuitive and designed in such a way, it fit my personal appeal. I think Infiniti is well in the market of the previously mentioned cars and are not riding on the name alone. It may be too early to say, but I believe this is a quality built vehicle that will give the others in this class a run for their money.

With a final price tag of 70k, I thought that was a little more than what I wanted to spend, but so far, no complaints. The only thing I wish slightly different, is the height of the car, it seems slightly too high, almost a cross between SUV and coupe. However, it makes it very comfortable entering and exiting the vehicle.

To make up what I lost in the S, I purchased a set of 20” rims that are going to look nice in the spring.

So in closing, I’d like to say I would highly recommend and new car buyer to take the M out for a test ride.

How are you feeling now after the "Honeymoon period"?, still in love or what?.
I am also looking at these cars.:)

I'm past my honeymoon period on my M37...and there are a few things that are really annoying.

1) The car is incredibly noisy unless you have all the windows up.

2) Downshifting to pass on freeways can be almost dangerous because the car almost feels like it's stalling before the transmission cuts in.

3) The navigation system can't decide if I have loaded phone numbers into the vehicle phone book. Sometimes it finds a name, sometimes it tells me that there are no numbers in the vehicle phone book (and there are).

4) Plugging in my iphone to charge always switches the radio to play thru the iphone....grrr! I just want to charge it...let me decid if I want to listen to it thru the system.

I have to agree the Car is NOT in the same league as BMW on anything, I test drove some of these cars in Birmingham and they are NOT to my liking at all.
Interiors nice and fully specced up to start with but the drive, awful along with economy.

Did you replace the stock 18" wheels with OEM 20" wheels (silver or gunmetal)? What tires did you choose? Can you describe the difference in ride quality/sound/etc?

I have an M56x and was thinking about doing the same..

BTW: There is a TSB for the delay in transmission response. I just had it done and there is no longer that hick-up in response..

I stopped by my dealer today to ask if they had applied the transmission fix to my car the last time I had it serviced. They looked up my service records, saw that in December I complained about the shifting and then told me that they hadn't applied the fix even though I had the car in in March. Grrr! They are doing it next thursday. Thanks for the heads up.

Update: I am getting the transmission "fix" on Thursday...but yesterday I found myself doing 70 on the interstate with a truck barrelling down on me from the rear. I pushed the gas about 3/4 of the way down to accelerate into the passing lane and the car....SLOWED DOWN. First there was a second or two of a pause while the car found the lower gear...then a jerk and the engine suddenly raced to about 6000 RPM....which I suspect is above the power band. Hearing the engine race like that I let up on the gas a little and engine braking started. It was both ugly, scary and dangerous.

Hopefully the fix will stop this from happening or Infiniti should consider a safety recall of the 2011 M37's before someone is killed.

update: car is a bit better, but I still could recreate what happened on the interstate...so if you want to any evasive maneuvers at 70mph, find a different car. I think this is about as much as infiniti can do.....they should have enough logic that they could determine that downshifting two gears throws the car above it's power band, so it should only downshift one gear. That's not exactly rocket science, but apparently the shift computer is pretty limited (or infiniti's programmers are).

Honeymoon is over....will the marriage last?

OK so now that enough time has passed, I have to say that I'm still happy but have put some focus on the previously mentioned quirks with the transimission issues.

I did find in 2 instances that there was a lag in the response time of the transmission. It was when I changed from Standard to Sport mode. It's only happened twice but after reading the previous posts, maybe I should look into this TSB (sorry don't know what that stands for) I'm assuming there is a known product defect that requires a adjustment by the dealer. I'll make a call to inquire.

Complaints Major
- Nothing major to complain about other than I cannot customize this car at all. There is no one out there with aftermarket parts. It's either too new or the demmand is not enough to manufacture parts.
Example - Brake Rotors and Calipers. Because I choose the X, the brake system looks terrible in comparison to the S series. You would not see that unless you replace the rims like i did. To replace the brakes will cost me $5500, so I'm painting them.

If anyone knows of an option, I would love to change these brakes.

Complaints Minor
- Interior lighting should have used LED's instead of the cheap bulbs, I can't find any LED's that work without a resistor built in and had to special order from China.
- Fog Lamps. I replaced with ballast HID's way better now
- Audio, there seems to be a limit on the volume, doesn't go as loud as it should

Pro's
- I still like the way such a heavy car handles, lots of power and hugs the corners well. It's a luxury car, not a sport model so I can't expect the low to the road type of drive I get from the G series, luxury with muscle is what I wanted, this car has it.

I put in the Nav Crack system and it makes all the difference when dealing with the phone, music, movies etc.... I highly recommend it.

I worked the new tires and rims on some winding roads and high speeds. Falken FK-452 20" with MSR Rims, no complaints.

I'm still impressed with this car but something odd. I hardly see any of these on the road at all. Since my purchase, I've only seen one other and that kinda freaks me out.
Is there something I'm not noticing here, Maybe it's an acquired taste. I don't think the price tag is more than it should be for it's class, maybe it's not as attractive to the masses which is actaully fine by me anyway.

TSB=Technical Service Bulletin

The dealer should track all of these, and be able to tell by your VIN whether or not your car needs them. They're of less significance than a recall, but important enough that they need to be taken care of.

Cheers

Nice job with your wheels! The car looks great. As with anything, most people are going to have their own preferences, and I'm quite pleased with the vehicle. Actually, I don't take ownership until Wednesday of this week, but I've been quite impressed with the multiple test drives. Coming off of a string of Nissan/Infinity vehicles, the M37S looks to be the car I've been longing for.

Thanks for the updates, and enjoy your M!

I just test drove M37X yesterday and picking up mine on Monday with Java interior. They had to track it down at some other dealership hence the delay. I didnt experience any of the transmission issues but then again I wasnt speeding on a highway. I will ask them to check for the TSB and make sure its done before I take delivery.

I loved the cockpit and even though I have been a BMW fan all my life I just couldnt cough up the money, for the things that should come with it such a keyless entry which is $1000 for the 5 series BMW.

I just wanted a luxury car with a power engine and wasnt looking for a "racing" car per say, or I would have bought a used M3 or S4. My last car is/was 2005 G35 which I bought used with 27,000 miles on it in 2006. and in 6 years its at 160,000 miles and runs amazingly smooth and still has the oomph in it.

I have driven this car like a race car with 600 miles a week for over 4 years. At times I did the oil change at 10,000 miles and in between i would just put the quarts of 10w40. Infinities are made to last and are very tough cars. With few glitches which I am sure infiniti dealers would get it fixed as the fixes come out, its just an amazing car and a cheaper replacement for German cars while not compromising the quality and technology. I would highly recommend Infinitis to anyone.

Nav Crack?

Please tell me about this? What does it do? Cost? Where can I get it?:p
