Windshield cracking

I have a 2011 QX56. My windshield cracked in June 2012. I never heard a rock or debris hit the windshield. It started in the driver corner and slowly grew from 6 inches all the way across the windshield to the center. I chose to not file with insurance because of a high deductible. The only windshield available after checking several glass shops was through the dealer. $1300!!!

One month later, I got a rock chip. The glass broke on impact! I now have another crack about 8 inches long.

Could the glass be faulty? Has anyone else had this problem?

I got a rock in my windshield mid-level below the rear view mirror. Nice indent and crack a few inches long horizontal. Drove that way for a week or two. Replaced the glass w/ insurance because I have full coverage and no deductible. Glass company used dealer glass. Sorry, can't help. seems like once the integrity of the glass is compromised, it will fail at some time sooner or later.

Expensive car = expensive repairs.

Next time, try glass repair. some insurance companies do it for free to avoid a full replacement.
