Hi all,
Apologize for the long post in advance. Will try to be as detailed as possible. Please advice.
I bought a used I30 2001 two months ago.
It's already run a lot (180k) but being a grad student and a fan of infinitis this was what was in my budget.
The car seems to be running comfortably and I didnt realize this issue until recently when I had a flat tire.
The front suspension seems to be bad which is pretty much turning into a nightmare. I think the struts are gone as when I tried to jack up the wheel to replace the wheel with the spare, even with a 75% jack height, the struts weren't supporting the unsuspended weight and the tire was still sticking to the ground.
Then on removing one front wheel I realized how the wheel rake has been so much that the inner threads are completely worn out while the outer wall is still at 70 % thread. This is true on both front wheels. The rear wheels and suspension seem to be riding well.
Now, I am a little low on money and still have to fix this to be able to drive to school. So, I am seeking some advice on how to approach this fix in a way that will be easy on my pocket in the short term with maybe a little money on it in another couple of months time.
The tires have to be replaced, period; but I believe this will wear out even the new tires in a little over a month. So, I am looking at some expertise from experience from Y'all on what I need to check. Strut assembly? strut bearing? etc.
Please advice and what would be your opinion on buying a used tire v/s rent a tire?
the wheels are p215 55r16
Please feel free to comment on any part of this post.
Grateful to any inputs.
Best,
revrak
