Water Rushing noise

I keep hearing this sound of Water rushing/flowing when I start the car or accelerate. Sounds like its coming from the firewall/dash area

any ideas??

could be air in the cooling system, you'll have to bleed the system, this should help.

If you're accelerating pretty hard then it's probably the air intake - the inlet over the left wheel is functional - that's the air intake. And it can make a pretty neat sound when you're really stepping on it!

It only happens when I start the car... I hear this water rushing noise; almost like hearing a toilet flush from the room down below it

could be the mechanical fan. sometimes when i crank up the car the big truck/mechanical fan ROAARRSSSSSSSSSS up for a few seconds then stops and just turns with the engine power (normal mode). perhaps this is what you are hearing...

no, not the fan. i hear that fan ROAR on some mornings... sounds like a big dump truck. it's definitely water.

i was gonna take it to the $tealer yesterday, but ran out of time. it's a daily noise and annoyance

Well.. the water rushing swishing sounds are getting more and more frequent...

any ideas as to the source??? the floor well is not wet and there isn't any water on the driveway

Have you noticed if the hot air is not as hot as it used to be? Like others have stated, this could be as simple as air in the system or your water pump going bad. My other car is Lexus LS460 and it had the same water rushing noise. Heat wasn't as hot. Took it in, and they are now replacing my water pump. Hope this helps.

Interesting... yes, my heat is not hot at all.

With 10-15deg temps here in MD for the past week, I'm glad the heated seats and steering wheel warm up

I know this is a really old thread, but our QX recently started having some of these symptoms.

Especially when cold, I get the sloshing of water sound on acceleration. Did you ever have a resolution to your problem?

The other thing I noticed is that the QX no longer warms up at idle. While driving, the heat pumps out as normal. If I'm parked, there's very little heat.

Last dumb question of this post: searching around the web this morning also has me concerned that it could be more than an air bubble or low coolant. I had both cats replaced a couple of months back due to a code / CEL the dealer found. I read the Altimas had a significant problem with the cats clogging and leading to a blown head gasket. It seems the usual indication of this was loss of heat at idle and the sloshing of water sound. Am I being paranoid now or is this a possibility?

Actually I mentioned it to the dealer when they were replacing my Timing Chain... but since they had the Beast for 2 weeks, I kinda forgot I asked them the question.... I hasn't rained here for a few weeks... It's supposed to tonight, so I'll listen for it tomorrow morning. It does take longer for my truck to produce hot air, but I chalk that up to the ice cold temps... after about 10 minutes, it gets pretty warm, though I feel cold air coming out of the vents at times.

I just had the same problem in my M37...I had just recently gotten the 60k service done and they changed the coolant. Well I heard that noise and just thought I had air in the cooling system...after looking at it I had a restriction in my heater core...they ended up replacing the entire heater box assembly...thanks to the extended warranty...total warranty cost....$3,200...and two days...hopefully it is just air in the cooling system...I did have a bubbling sound in the QX that just turned out to be air...and hopefully you still have a warranty...

yup... I have the warranty for 6yr/120k. Yesterday it rained pretty good here, but this morning the water sound was not as "rushing" as it had been in the past, but it was still present. I have to remember to re-mention this to the dealer when I go in for the next oil change in a few weeks.

If it sounds like it's in the dash board then you either have air or a restriction in the heater core...ive had both the bubbling sound and the rushing water sound...and the rushing water sound was not good...

Mine is definitely the rushing water sound. The first time I heard it, I actually picked up my feet thinking something was going to come rushing through the firewall!

Did yours do it constantly or were there certain conditions that made it worse? Two days ago, it did it every time I moved the QX. The last two days, nothing. I've been playing with heating settings, but can't seem to replicate it.

The thing that is consistent is whenever I stop moving, the heat stops. When I start moving again, the heat comes right back. Sounds like a heater core issue to me.

Yep...I don't know what caused it but for a few days after I had my 60k done I heard this rushing water noise shortly after starting and moving my car. At first I thought the windshield cowl or the A/C drain was clogged. When I took it to the dealership after looking at it the tech noticed the passenger side wasn't getting as warm as it should have been and several more test revealed that there was a restriction in the heater core...so the entire dash had to come out...this was on my M37...Now on my QX I only had a bubbling sound...and slightly low coolant in my reservoir so they said they had to flush the heater core out then bleed the air out the system....i hope for you its just air in the system...
