Cats,

3100 miles into the 2012 Qx, I have that musty mildew smell coming from the condenser. it only smells a few times when the ACCS kicks in. I use auto recirc so when it "sniffs" odors it automatically goes into recirc mode.

it does not smell all the time, just certain times. i know this is due to the condenser and how it breeds bacteria.
there is this product, http://www.detailersdomain.com/1Z-einszett-Klima-Cleaner--AC-Odor-Bacteria-Cleaner_p_78.html , that is raved across the interwebs.

im going to use it, but im curious about the IONIZER aka plasmacluster system thats installed. I wonder if spraying this foam into the vent thats directly going into the condenser will affect the plasmacluster system?

i dont think it will.. i think the condenser is in there by itself and that environment is designed to have moisture--this is where the drain hose is and where the water drips out to the street--but just wanted to see if i can spark up some dialog here with other new gen qx-ers out there.

have not contacted the dealer yet as they will do a similar thing (spraying some stuff into the vent) and charge much extra for this service.

so have any of you had this smell crop up?

ive said a lot of stuff here but my main question is will spraying this condenser cleaner into the condenser box affect the ionizier/plasmascluster system? me thinks not but wanted to see what others would have to say...

thank you...

I would contact the dealer, they should fix it free of charge. I had this happen on a Dodge Ram that was under warranty and Dodge took care of it for no cost to me.

Hey mark: Just saw your post, sorry I can't help you there. We have went 'Winter' here, so I am straight heat.
I will watch for draining, when I run defrost, cause the AC compressor runs on defrost.
If I get a warmer day I will crawl under the thing and look for that tube. They do get clogged and cause that smell. You don't think any wasp or mud dobbers clogged that tube ?

Havn't gotten any salt on mine 'yet'. Trying to avoid driving it in the snow afterwards, but the state is dumping the salt. I thought there were tight budgets! annoying.
Have a good one Mark

hey thank you for the response.

im in LA and ive not been anywhere for any of those things to happen. i would doubt the hose is clogged. i think there is just bacteria on the evaporator (NOT condenser! the condenser is on the outside! my fault!!) causing this smell. it does not happen often.

i ordered a can of the stuff i talked about above so i will give it a go once i get it next week. will report back....
