To close the truck lid and lock the truck I have to push the close button and then wait for it to close completely (5-10 seconds) and THEN I can lock the truck using the little black button under the chrome lip in the license tag area.

My old suv had a lock and close button/function that automatically locked the truck while the lid was closing so I could walk away while the lid shut.

Doesn't seem like a big deal, but I use the trunk daily and waiting by the truck for 5-10 seconds for the lid to close and THEN locking it gets a little old.

Am I missing something or is there a better way to do this faster?

Terrific and useful forum -- thanks to all on board!

I usually hit the close button, start walking, and when I hear the latch click I hit the lock button on the remote. I'm a bit fat and old, so maybe I walk slower than some here, but I've never made it out of range before the lift gate latched. :)

I agree the mechanisms in the back end could all be sped up a bit (folding of 3d row, opening / closing of the lift gate), but I'm sure there's some lawsuit somewhere that forces manufactures to adhere to the safety margin of the lowest common denominator.

I do as Sjyokel does... press close on remote as I'm walking away

if you have the key fob in hand just press the lock button. this will lock the doors as the lid is lowering down for the close.

Like you I use my trunk daily as I work out of it so at each stop I'm opening and closing the hatch. I don't use the auto close unless my hands are full. I will sometimes use the auto open when I arrive at my next stop.
If you just pull down on the hatch it will close on its on under the weight of the door and furthermore saves the little motor for another day.
This speeds up the process and allows you to touch the black button to lock the doors before walking away. I normally open it manually as well. I know it defeats the purpose of having an auto operation but every vehicle I have ever owned that had this was too slow for my liking. I'm too impatient!!
Hope this helps.

KC,
does closing manually not potentially damage the motor if repeatedly performed? - Not a smart Alec question, I genuinely do not know.

I just tried hitting the close button on my remote and then locked the doors from the remote while the tailgate was closing. I'm using a 2006 QX56 and everything seemed to be locked and I couldn't open the rear gate manually once it closed.

opening and closing the trunk door manually will not harm anything. the motor is disengaged when you press the button to put the system in manual..

Sorry just now seeing this and Marc has answered but I will add this note:

One thing I really like about the QX is that the motor is not engaged until you hit the button to activate. Until that point the gate is free to move manually which was unlike our previous Tahoe. There was a brief period of resistance when you tried to manually close the gate and while I never had any problems it never "felt good" breaking free.
