I have a beautiful black 2012 QX56 with just around 100k miles on it. I probably drive 6, 000 miles a year. Last Saturday I was driving around town when I noticed during acceleration that the truck was sputtering. Then a few hours later when I stepped on the gas pedal it would rev up and then jump into gear like in a jerking motion. I thought it might have been bad gas. The next day (Sunday) I drove it about 50 miles to get the gas out and then replaced it with Premium gas. That didn't resolve the jerking. I contacted the Infiniti dealership to see if they can look at it. They said yes so I had it towed into them a few hours later. They said that the transmission was bad due to rotted cooler lines. They contacted my extended warranty company (Ethos Group). My warranty company sent out an adjuster to Infiniti who denied a claim as they don't cover damage due to rotted cooler lines. Infiniti said to replace the transmission it would be in the ballpark of $8000 to replace my transmission. I believe the dealership wants me to buy a new truck. I told them to give me a few days to decide something.
Which seems to be the best way to go?
1) AAMCO says that they can replace the transmission with a transmission they found with 93k miles on it. They would give me a 2 year/100,000 miles warranty. The cost for this is $4500.
2) I found a transmission for $1700 with 51K on it. A different AAMCO said that they would install that transmission for $1250. Transmission with almost half the miles installed for $3000.
3) AAMCO also says for $1995 they remove the transmission replace key/core components and anything else they find. They don't anticipate anything they find would add more than $800 to the $1995. The cost could be between $2000-2800. I kind of like this option, cause old parts are being replaced with new parts.
4) I am optimistic that if AAMCO does a diagnostic they will find something different. Maybe they replace the rotted cooler lines. Add fluid back to the transmission and the transmission is WORKING again.
I want to make a decision by this Tuesday... Any advice/suggestions would be well appreciated.
