Tire pressure warning system--just another perk I like...

how many of you cats have used the tire pressure warning system?

i did it today on all 4 tires. the lamps blink to tell you how close you are to the 35psi rated level and then beeps once when you reach it. if you overfill, you get three beeps. once you let the air out back to normal, you get the one beep.

just another unsung hero feature of this beautiful machine.... :o
 
On a similar note, what is everyone running for Tire Pressures?

I keep mine around 32 psi cold and it jumps up to 36-37 psi hot. I wonder what would be the best for tire wear and ride quality?
 
i use what's on the side of the sticker on the door and thats 35psi. i can tell a difference as ive been running around 32 ish and i know much prefer the recommended setting of 35.

the dealer wanted to keep my pressure at 32 ish and since its been a little cooler at nights around here (boy i miss nitrogen in my tires) the psi drops below 31, and the warning lamps come on. this is what prompted me to play with the system.

my daily trek the tire pressure jumps up 1-2 psi hot. just not been that hot around here lately for the psi to get higher than that from my experience.

like i said, i didnt like the ride with the lower pressure and can tell a difference in that couple psi increase.

Always use the tire pressure on the door for every tire including different brands you purchased as replacements, not the sidewall of the tire or what your father used when you were a kid. The pressure on the door is what the air pressure should be in relation to weight of the vehicle. 35lbs on a Bridgestone is the same as 35lbs on a Firestone. I see guys all the time looking at the sidewall of the tire. Drives me crazy.
 
Ok... I'd luv to know where that indicator is and that way I can tell which tire is low... so how do I do this ???

Yeaaaaa... I'm to lazy to look in the manual.
 
indicator?

press the info button and then "tire pressure". the screen shows each tire and its current pressure through the tpms...

Well... I must not have the tire pressure feature, must be part of the Tech Package which I do not have... all I have is the Theater package.

I only have the theater package also and I have the tire pressure monitoring system. It's there in the info screen.
I have not tested the system by adding or removing air but I have the info on the screen. I'll have to check this out tomorrow and see if it works.
 
So this thread made me take a closer look at how my tire pressures were and as I mentioned they were all 31 psi COLD. So I figured that, while the ride was probably soft and cushy, I wanted to try and save some tire wear and I went ahead and bumped them up to 35PSI.

When doing so on all 4 tires the car honked once when I got to the 35 psi threshold, fyi.

This is terrible advice. While I understand the spirit of your advice in that the door sticker will always give the recommended air pressure for that vehicle, that pressure is derived based on a specific tire and that vehicle combination. Simply telling others to go by this suggestion regardless of the type of tire they are purchasing is not only irresponsible it could get someone killed.
There are many types of tires on the market with different load and speed ratings that will all vary in the recommended air pressure.
I would hate to see someone read this and take it for face value and have an accident.

and as far as this model car is concerned, clearly infiniti recommends 35psi cold since the system is designed for it and the sticker on the door says it.

i mean who am I to contest what the manufacturer says?

i understand KC's response, as one should not arbitrarily just do something without verifying form another source or two, but with the sticker on the door and the system set for 35psi, thats good enough for me. :P

plus the ride is much more smoother as it should be.......
 
Ok... where on the Info Screen is the Tire Pressure screen... I just don't see it. (Full Disclosure, I think I may need glasses....shhhhhhhsh)

Once you press "INFO" on the display screen there should be several sub menus.

-Fuel Economy
-Tire Pressure
-ETC
-ETC

EDIT: I have added what the screen should look like AFTER you press the INFO button (hard button) just below the nav screen.

My response was aimed at the aftermarket comment. The sticker recommendations are based on the particular vehicle and tire they come out with. Any changes to that formula could and very likely will change the recommended tire pressure. It obviously won't change the ecm presets which is why some guys running aftermarket oversize tires on their trucks disable the TPMS systems so the vehicle isn't always alerting them to an issue that doesn't exist as opposed to having the ecm reprogrammed which I'm not sure is even possible or the dealer would be willing to do?

In regards to what I do? I follow the sticker provided the vehicle is as it came from the dealership.
If I have changed tires/wheels then I would go with the recommended operating range for that tire based on the weight of the qx which can be found on most all of the tire manufacturer's websites.

No it has nothing to do with XM. I let my XM lapse and I still have that screen. If you for real don't have it, you need to bring it up with the dealer the next time you are there since there are other areas that screen can take you to.
