Am I using it wrong? Roads are suppose to turn red during high traffic but that is near impossible to see with the yellow guidance line. Doesn't announce any traffic congestion, just returned from over 1500 mile trip and only announced one thing, congestion due to a bridge. It also says traffic in the corner but that never appears to do anything, no traffic, heavy traffic it never changes.

Being in the San Francisco Bay Area the green, yellow and red traffic indicators are huge and help me avoid traffic. However this is a visual indicator and I have never heard anything audibly.

But if you have a destination set it's nearly impossible to see the colors because the yellow route line covers it.

not true punish.

i use GPS all the time here in SOCAL. just yesterday i used it on the 5. i was coming up on traffic and on the left hand side in split screen it shows you the green, yellow, red indicator next to the next change in the route. also, it will re direct you if there is heavy traffic, construction, etc. again, yesterday on the 5 there was heavy traffic. the system asked me if i wanted to detour in 6 miles--to which i did and it actually saved me a few miles.

so , i take it you dont use the gps in split screen mode else you would see the indicators on the side... ;)

c'mon punish, you know I would not steer you wrong bro! :D the sirius add on is worth it in cities that use this service....

I had it set for split screen most of the trip and never saw a thing. I think something is up with my GPS.

I don't know how "zoomed out" you are on the GPS/Nav, but could it be that you must be a certain percentage of being "zoomed out" in order for the Nav to "show" the traffic patterns. I tried this yesterday, remembering this thread, and I did see the traffic patterns on the freeways once I "zoomed out". However, I was not close enough to the freeway to see if the traffic patterns were still there while "zoomed in", so I can't be sure about this. Worth checking out though.

maybe that's it, I do keep zoomed in pretty tight, like 1/8mi

Also....on 'settings', go to 'Navigation, scroll down and select 'Traffic Info', make sure 'traffic flow on map' is set to "on".
Perhaps this was set to "off"?

im at 1/8 range also. if im smart enough, ill just map the destination to the job tomorrow and ill snap a photo. i am sure there will be traffic on the 101 so you will see what i mean.. :D

Punish,

As you can see on the left hand side you see the color of the traffic pattern on the road you are on. also if you look on the main map area you still see the color indicator (green in the photo as it was light traffic today) on the road....

and im zoomed in at 1/16 i think...

Thank you so much for doing this. The left shows traffic too? Interesting, never noticed that. If it turned red does it give you an optional route to take? The right hand side is too difficult to see especially at 80mph, see how it's hidden by the yellow route line? Now you see where it says "Traffic" at the top? What the hell is that for? Does it change with traffic conditions?

Punish,

"traffic" means your service is active. if you are not subscribing to it, that word will not be there.

yes if you had heavy traffic, those green lines on the left would be yellow or red, depending on the road conditions and what that service is getting from the sensors in the road.

the left does not show cars, it shows the exits you pare passing and what your next change is in the destination.

if there is a detour to be made, the system will prompt you to ask if you want to take a detour. if there is construction, an accident preventing smooth traffic flow, lane closures.. etc..., the system will alert you to this and give you an optional route to take.

i understand that at 80 mph you can't see during the route, but if you have the split screen up, on the left it will show you the yellow and red zones as they get close.

at 1/16 zoom level above, I can see the color of the street at a glance, and when i am not using gps (just the regular map screen is up) i can see the color quire well. :)

I did find a "Traffic Emphasis" button that was not on. I bet that helps. I came to two accidents with heavy stopped traffic on my last trip and there was no alert or any indication of this, one even had a flight for life helicopter on the road. Maybe they dont have the road sensors in Alabama but it still annoyed me that I pay for a traffic service that was no use to me.

I'm gonna keep it for a little while but may end up dropping it next year.

Thanks for all your information!

its not the fault of infiniti. the sensors have to be in place in the region you are at. obviously bigger cities will have more detailed info over smaller cities.

Why is traffic flow information from SiriusXM Traffic available only on some roads?

Traffic flow information is fed to us from many sources, including roadway sensors and GPS-equipped trucks. The availability of these feeds varies from city to city and can sometimes be limited. But we're constantly working to incorporate alternative technologies that will improve the availability, speed and flow of roadway data.

Holy crap, after I put the traffic emphasis on the roads now show little construction signs all over. I even got a detour warning today. I'll bet it's much better on the highway too.
