Occassionally I have a problem starting my 2000 I30. Turn the key and it may fire off, or it may just turn over. Change nothing, including removing the key or even turning it to the off position, turn the key a second time and it may fire and may not. Pulled the #4 plug (just for convenience), plugged it into the coil and laid it on the engine to make contact, and turned the key. One time we got an initial spark for about 3 seconds and then it cut out, the next time the engine started and ran on 5 cylinders with the resulting puffing from the #4 cylinder being open. Again, sometimes the spark continues and sometimes it custs out after 3-4 seconds.
Looking for possible solutions, as we have checked relays that we can think of.
Once the engine starts, it runs like a top with no sputtering whatsover so it does not sound like a loose ground or the engine would react accordingly.
My mechanic is at a loss on this.
