If you can get 5w30 it is better for any car that can take 10w30. All engines operate at approx the same temp (at around 100c). At that temperature 5w30 AND 10w30 are both 30 weight oil.
PERIOD!
But when you start the car (cold) 5w oil flows better (they don't get as thick) as 10w oil. In fact if you can get your hands on 0w (zero w) oil it is even better for winter weather. For the summer months the first number (0w, 5w, 10w) is meaningless because those are for winter (w) rating.
I would usggest 5w-30 unless you dont like how the car feels like it is running. I alway go with 10w-30 no matter the weather bc my crar jsut doesn't seem to run as smooth on 5w-30. It wouldn't hurt to give it a go. Most people and mechanics suggest using 5w-30 when its cold and i have similar weather living in st. louis!
Don't worry about it unless your overnight temperature drops below zero degrees F. In that case, go with the 5W-30. The 5W will stay thinner at extreme low temps. BTW, it is a waste of fuel and a source of pollution to idle an engine before driving in cold weather. Just drive gently for the first few minutes. Give the oil a chance to warm up and get the rings seated before racing the engine or loading it hard.
