Should I buy 98' Infiniti I30 134k miles which declared as total loss vehicle before?

hi, i'm having a hard time to decide whether i should buy '98 infiniti i30, 134k miles for $4000. the major problem is when i look up on carfax.com, the car was declared total loss but no salvage/junk/rebuilt title, which is, confusing. What could possibly be the reason for a car declared total loss without having salvage/junk/rebuilt title?

I'm not sure if this is applicable to this car, but there was a recall on some of the 98s & 97s for faulty alternators resulting in a fire. I'm dealing w/ it for my 99 which is not part of the recall and Infiniti will not help... Good luck.
