So I sent my ECM out to be repaired. I had several issues going on with the car so it's ultimate demise was not a shock. The repair shop told me that there are usually three culprits in the failure of the ECM...bad IAC, bad motor mounts, or a short somewhere in the harness. Luckily, said with sarcasm, my ECM showed evidence of all three.
I've replaced the IAC, rectified the problem with the motor mounts, and reinstalled the ECM, though I have yet to connect the battery.
My question then, is this...is there a quick way to find a short, or to locate where it might be? When I initially began having problems with the ECM, the cooling fans would not shut off. So my thinking is that if I track the cooling fan wires down that somewhere along the routing that I would find where the wires burned/shorted. I say burned because I remember smelling it burn. But after doing my best using this method, I've found nothing.
Anybody got any helpful tips to assist me in keeping my sanity? I'm not much of a fan for electrical work, so this, to me, is a nightmare....but I'm trying to stay positive. Pun? Anyway...send help!
Thanks, Darrin
