I have a 2012 QX56 with 58K on it. Recently the source randomly changes on the radio and always ends up on USB. Sometimes it will last awhile and sometimes it will immediately change after you've gone back to the source you want. The way I see it, it's either the source button on the steering wheel, the source button on the center dash control panel, or the radio/head unit itself. My guess is the head unit. I've looked on Ebay to look up some used replacements for at least the HU. My question is, is the HU in these the part that has the in-dash CD/DVD player behind the center dash control panel? I'm pretty sure it is, but I do not know much about how these multimedia systems work or are set up in this trucks. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

it could be the clockspring in the steering wheel shorting/causing issues. could also be a faulty dash button.

the headunit is the in dash unit that you are speaking about.

Thanks for the response. Both the steering wheel source button and the one on the center dash both seem to move freely. Not saying it can't still be one of those, but neither is sticking and when it does it, it's very random. I also looked into the USB port in the center console. The cover was still there and nothing was in it that would seem to be causing an issue. I think if it persists then I'll swap out the HU. At $100-150, I can think of worse things to waste money on especially since I won't have to hear the wife complain about it anymore. With that said, something like that would drive me nuts too. Thanks

the clockspring is the wiring harness inside the steering wheel. they do wear out. if the clock spring has caused an intermittent issue, it could affect the mode button.

granted, this is speculation since we are conversing over the internet and im just going by what you are saying. at the end of the day you know your car better than anh of us online and it fact it may be the HU. electrical issues/wiring are difficult to trace.

It should be the clockspring because before doing what you said , mine start with volume ,chance channels trough the steering wheel and the horn stop working. All fuse and relay are ok
