So after i googled P1130 (swirl control sol) for infiniti i found it was a pretty common problem on the VQ motors, but there were several different things people said were the cause. Today I looked at a girls car that had this code yesterday (its a 1999 I30) so i cleared it, looked at the car today and it's not there. not even a pending code. and she drives it above 3200rpms regularly so it should have set a code if it wasnt working.
I looked at the system for the first time today, im not sure exactly what the map/boro sol is there for, but I went to the actuator sol and pulled the hose off it where it leads to the actuator, i applied vac using a hand pump and the linkage moved pretty readily. so I ran the engine and applied ground to the ground side of the circuit (usually applied by the PCM) but the linkage didnt move at all. So I removed the sol and confirmed it was switching airway continuity for the middle air port between the port at the top (when not energized) and the bottom port right next to it (when energized). I assume that because the middle port goes to the actuator that the lower port next to it should be the vac supply but there wasnt any there. is that actually the problem here? that line (which immediately goes to a metal line, 1 of 3 on the line manifold) should be the supply according to my thought process. am I thinking about this the wrong way somehow? where does that metal line lead? it's the center line on the hose manifold, goes under the air intake/throttle body.
she's also complaining of low power, but of course if the variable intake system isnt working properly then of course that could easily be related and should be addressed first. there were no other codes in the pcm.
thanks for the help, guys! Im sure you're the ones who would know
