Hoping for a late night or holiday electrical genius/forum crawler. So I am 24 hours into owning a 2012 qx56 and during my first evening I quickly came to the realization that I have no headlights whatsoever or even fogs. After a scary ass ride home down dark roads lit by hazard lights (turn signals still work though!) I text the dealer and he tells me it was fine when it left, he looked at it, must have happened after I bought it... So, only details I have are that I know he had to replace the weird fuse/relay attached to the positive terminal, and was told that the alternator had to be replaced, but while I'm not sure of the location, I notice all very old pulleys from what I can see (which is little at night) and I also know they replaced the serpentine belt. I am hoping that someone knows of a plug that all of the lights share or something that the lights would all have in common as they all seem to have separate fuses and relays. I can verify that the stalk appears to work as it lowers the backlight, fog light emblem comes on, vehicle chimes when left on when you open the door etc... If you have any thoughts whatsoever they would be much appreciated as it's not sounding like the seller is going to be of much help... (before you say it, no warranties in NY on vehicles over 100k, no 3 day take back rule or any of that stuff, im stuck with it)

Hello and welcome to the forum. Happy 4th.

The part on the battery regulates the current coming from the alternator.
In the engine room there is a black box all the way in the back on the firewall (you are facing the car) and on the left. Inside there is the relays and such for the high current parts like petrol pump, fogs, lamps, etc. get your owner manual out (if you don’t have it just go online and search 2012 qx56 owners manual) and find the relay that is for the lamps and fogs. This info may be on the underside of the cover, i cant recall (ive a 2012 also).

If those relays are there, they could be faulty. Try and source some at your local paerrs depot or a Infiniti dealer.

Hopefully its not anything electrical in the wiring.

Other than that, is there anything else that the car isn’t doing properly? Do you know if you have the loaded qx with the theater/touring package, 22 inch wheels, hbmc?

Maybe take it by a autozone and ask if they have a code reader. They will go out to the car and check for any codes at the obd port. That’s also a good place to start.

Unrelated, have you checked the cars history? Give a infiniti dealer a call and give them our vin and ask if there are any recalls outstanding on the car. There was a big one a couple years ago...

Yes, it does have the touring package, unfortunately not the technology package. I am going to test out all of the relays and fuses now that it's light outside, but I don't think that six fuses or relays went bad either so I'm not crossing my fingers. I'm going to start checking everything for 12v and ground, hopefully there's just a loose ground that's easy to find. I'm hoping someone on here knows where that whole harness terminates in to in the hope that I can track it down.

if you feel comfy reading the schematic you can find the actual service manual the infiniti techs use online,. just search for it.

i think there is just oe relay for the headlamps and one relay for the fogs.

don't know what you mean by "whole harness terminates in to". but rather theh chacsing down a rabiit hole witht hehanrss, just start at the obvious/ easy places first , which is the relays. also getting the obd codes pulled, if any.
