Nissan to Rename all Cars and SUV's in 2013

Autoweek has just revealed that starting in January of 2013 Nissan/Infiniti is going to rename the majority of their cars with the "Q" prefix and all of it's SUV's with the "QX" prefix.

The G35 becomes the Q50
The G coup and convertible become the Q60
The M sedan is now the Q70

The EX becomes the QX50
The JX becomes the QX60
The FX becomes the QX70

and the QX56 becomes the QX80!

Nissan is making the name changes because they believe that this will make it easier for them to market their vehicles internationally. I wish this story was released on April 1st because it would be very easy to believe that this was an April Fool's joke, but unfortunately the story is true. I think somebody in Nissan Marketing is going to be looking for a new job sometime in mid-2013!

Sounds to me that the person who came up with this has an IQ of about 50.

I wonder if this is the same guy that convinced Ford that all of their models had to start with F?

Why?

It would make more sense to keep the naming structure the same in the U.S. and adopt the new naming strategy in the other markets/countries they are trying to expand in.
