Hello all,

We recently picked up a lightly-used 2012 QX. We'd previously owned a 2006 Armada and tried to love a 2013 JX for the last 8 months. Eventually, we found far too many compromises and decided to swap it for our QX.

So far, we're throughly amazed with everything the QX has to offer. It's very nimble for something so large, gets respectable mpg for the size, and seems to be just the right mix of luxury and fun to drive.

We've gotten to know it well in a short amount of time. Our first week in the QX was a 2,700 mile round trip for our daughter's hockey camp. I can't think of many vehicles that would have been so comfortable and held all of our gear over that long of a trip. Well done, Infiniti!

What about the JX did you not like? I was thinking of getting one for my wife to replace her van (assuming she'd let me, she loves her van).

I had a JX as a rental... it was terribly underpowered.. I think the aesthetic of the truck is weak/ugly. The build was nice and tight.

I was also thinking about buying one for broomhilda, but I wasn't impressed at all.

I would go with a FX over the JX.

nice tech in the jx but the cvt tranny is not a good fit imo.

q is the better choice... ;) welcome OP!

We really like "both" I have a 2013 QX, and the wife a JX. The JX is nice for around town and for a smaller SUV that will still seat 7. The CVT transmission does take some getting used to, it's not quick off the line but doesn't suffer through increase and without a downshift it feels faster than it really is. The wife traded in a CTX and loves that JX over the Caddy. The QX has plenty of HP and tows like a dream, it's my DD and our long distance travel SUV given it's size and cargo capacity. But I also know my wife likes "riding" in the QX but says it's way to big for her to drive..

yeah ive a 12 and its my daily beater. love driving this thing in traffic... turn on the brake assist feature in slow moving traffic and all i need to do is keep my foot near the accelerator and let Fatz (name of my Q) do all the braking... :D

If she loves her van, she might love the JX. My wife really enjoyed it. I really disliked it. There are far too many compromises and it just seems to come up short in a lot of areas. The biggest one to me is it does a lot of things ok, but none really well. It seemed a bit underpowered...or maybe it was just the CVT. The interior storage space was somewhat limited and it had more squeaks and rattles than any car I've owned before.

Now that we've driven the QX about 5,000 miles in the few weeks we've owned it, it fills in the gaps extremely well for us. I'm sure there is a market for the JX...it just wasn't us.

I do think the CVT was a limiting factor for us. At speed, it was fine and even adjusted well going up or down steep hills. Pulling out into traffic, it was scary at times because it was so unresponsive even in Sport mode. Despite the size differences, the QX seems to drive smaller than the JX if that makes any sense. It's more responsive and handles better. Again, I'm sure there are many who would find the JX a great fit. It just didn't turn out to be for us.

Having owned both FX and QX vehicles, I have to say that neither I or my wife find the QX to feel oversized.

No kidding! I can't imagine anyone over 5'8 having to drive an FX over a couple of miles. I had one while our QX was being serviced as a loaner. Sweet baby Jesus I felt like I was strapped in a kayak!
For the record I'm no little dude at 6'3 275. Besides our 12 QX our small get around town vehicle is my 05 3/4 ton Crewcab Duramax.

I loved the look of the JX when we saw it on the showroom floor but after seeing a few out on the highway now I'm proud we didn't get one. My wife wanted one too bad for a while. We both agree the look isn't very pleasing to the eye. What appeals to us is obviously different than others but the JX appears as a minivan gone all wrong. Unfortunately the "new" Pathfinder is almost if not an exact replica. Hate to see that happen to such a legendary platform.

Well I actually do stand 5'8" tall, but I weigh 250 pounds. I found the FX to be very comfortable on long trips. In fact the only reason we stepped up to the QX in 2005 was for the extra space we needed to haul all of the stuff to Lake Tahoe we needed for our daughters wedding.

An FX50s is one I'll also be testing although if I end up going with a more performance type of vehicle with some hauling capacity I'll probably end up with a CTS-V Wagon.

2700 mile trip, and no vibration?

Hi Sjyokel: Glad you really like the QX56 and found this cool forum, welcome!
Hey you said you went on a 2700 mile trip in the QX, How was it ? Mountains or flat lands? Mix ?
Did you ever encounter the accelerator pedal vibration? Or it was normal all the time?
Some report a vibration and others don't have a vibration in the accelerator pedal. Let us know.
I haven't encountered it, mine is a 2011 model. Yes I agree Infiniti did an excellent job with the QX. Love that motor !

Have a good one,

I think the entire Infiniti/Nissan development team needs to be retooled. They are producing the blandest exterior looking cars on the road.... JUKE. Took me awhile to dig the QX, but it grew on me, thus I bought it. The JX is butt ugly, and will not get it PERIOD!! The interiors on the other hand are top notch!!

The trip was mostly flat on the way down (Memphis to Miami) and a few hilly areas on the way back (went through NC to visit family). Having lived out west before, I know there are no "real" mountains in NC, but some fairly big hills nonetheless!

We didn't experience any accelerator vibrations and really appreciated all that the QX had to offer on that trip. We'd made a very similar trip about 3 months earlier in the JX and found it cramped and one of the most unpleasant road trips we've taken in a long time. Doing the trip in the QX, I was truly ready to keep going. Once you trust the technology, it makes highway miles fly by with very little stress and you always know it's ready to respond if you hit the gas pedal.

I would stay away from the JX for the next year or two. I know a service tech at a Infiniti/Nissan dealership and there is a dedicated phone line just for troubleshooting technical problems for the JX. Would wait until at least the 3rd year of the vehicle cycle to at least get all the bugs fixed. He said some JX's sitting with service lights on for weeks before they diagnose and fix the problem.

I second that. We went through an engine swap during our 8 months of ownership. I later found out a parent from the kid's sports team is one of the quality control engineers for the JX. He was checking out our JX one day and starts laughing at me. Apparently ours was one of the first 1,000 built and he told me we'd be in for a rough ride.

I should have learned. We had one of the early first model year Titans when Nissan entered the full sized truck market. It had the undersized brakes that felt like the whole truck was going to come apart if you hit them too hard and we waited over 6 months for them to make the fix.
