Just purchased and am on a sharp learning curve. Does anyone know if the software package update(2015) is worth the cost versus the one that came with the vehicle.?

I apologize, being a newbie I didn't realize there may be more than one software upgrade. The one I was thinking about has to do with the navigation system/map function. I read somewhere that there is one available, came out in 2015. Does that clarify my question??

ok so you are asking about updating the GPS map data on the car.

well if you have a 2010 version, i would for sure update to the latest version IF you use the gps system often. but thats me.

most folks these days just use their phone map app because its free and it will navigate you much better around traffic than the OEM version.

I just purchased the vehicle and so I am assuming that it came with the 2010 version. I do use my phone for gps, but have found it nice to also have the vehicle gps available. It appears, from what I read, that an updated version came out in 2015, that makes it five years old. It cost about $150 plus installation(haven't checked that cost out yet). I was wondering if anyone has upgraded to the 2015 version and what their experience has been.

there is not really an "experience" to say. its just a map update. if you use it now , then its going to be the same with the latest version. there are no new features or anything of that sort. its just simply the latest version of the map data.

you can check your map version to find out what version you have.

its 80 bux to get the update:

there is no installation cost. not sure where you got that from...

Thanks for the information. The only reference I ran across for the update came about as a result of typing in 'software updates for 2010QX56'. A source came up through eBay and the
Price listed was $150 and instructions were it had to be done at a Nissan dealership(thus I expected a charge for installation).
Anyway, the experience I was interested in was whether the update, as you pointed out is confined to mapping, was providing the user with sufficient enough updated information to justify the cost, especially since it is five years old.
I am enamored with the vehicle. I drove it about 300 miles yesterday and loved the ride. I used the map function and the only difficulty I had was finding a way to end the route prematurely....I suspect there is a way to do that, but I am a newbie.....

reading the operator's manual will show you how to end the trip early if you need to.

i do apologize -- i misspoke on something.

PRIOR to 2011, the first gen qx will need to be updated at the dealer. what you are purchasing is a CODE that you take to infiniti. they will use this code to download and update your map data. im not sure what the ebay link is doing and i would not trust it.

again, the experience you have had already will be the same for the 2015. i cant make it any clearer with all due respect. you should see improvements in routes since things may have changed in your area over 5 years, but that's it.

I was looking at updating the maps because I get tired of using my phone. The dealer wanted an arm and a leg to upgrade it. In the end I decided to go aftermarket with a piggyback Android. Lsailt android for eg

Thank you Clinthammer for sharing. That is what I was looking for, a personal experience with upgrading.
I had tried to use the map function and found that the 2010 version did not allow me to type in the name of the business I was traveling to. I assumed this was due to limitations in the data base of the 2010 map function. From that I assumed that if I updated to the version that came out in 2015 there would be limits to what the function was aware of since it would be five years old. And would that justify the expense of upgrading? Just how limited was what I was hoping someone who had experience with the upgrade would share. Your experience, although not exactly what I hoped, for is enough to guide me in a different direction.
Apparently, I did not do a good job of explaining my thinking. Thanks to Marctronixx for helping me to clarify my question. By the way, my mention of a link to eBay was to a listing by someone offering to sell a version of the upgrade.

when i had my 2008 armada (bought it new and had it until 2011 when i got my 12 qx) , i updated the map every year. usually when i did it, it was when i was going in for an oil change. they would simply do the install for free since the car was already in the shop.

process takes under an hour (usually 30 minutes) and it involves the tech connecting to a nissan cloud server , verifying your code you bought, then downloading the update. i learned then that it was half the cost of a labor hour. back then, the update was about 150 ish dollars.

later models use DVDs you purchase and install yourself.
