I recently returned from a two week vacation to find my 2008 M35 @150K miles making a raucous rattling noise at startup. Gradually over time it's disappeared/faded away completely.
Here's a video of the second time I turned the car on, it's not as prominent as the first start, but still loud:
I thought it was the timing chain at first, but now I'm not so sure. A friend thinks that whatever was rattling broke and that's why it's no longer making that noise.
There are no check engine lights or any other symptoms.
What are your thoughts?
