I have a 2012 QX with Tech pkg. It has the load leveling rear suspension and noticed a few times when having people or a bit of cargo in the back then removing them that when the suspension tries to return to the normal height it gets very noisy.

I imagine it is purging the air? If so, it is a high pitched almost air / metallic sound coming from the left rear side.

I thought the suspension was a nivomat suspension (oil pressurized) and not pneumatic?

In any case, anyone else find the rear load leveling a bit too noisy?

two different systems.

auto leveling uses an air compressor to lift up the rear. it uses air air bags. yes this sounds like an air compressor when its filling up. ive never heard the system purge air on the qx because ive not had a reason to have the rear lifted on the q.

hydraulic body motion control is for the suspension and you should not hear any noises from it.

I don't think it has anything to do with the HBC in my case, it is definitely the rear leveling suspension. Maybe the pump is bad on the driver side? Next time I take it in for servicing I will ask them to verify the functioning of the leveling suspension.

I will say that you can 'hear' the leveling suspension. I connect my trailer which puts weight on it and you can hear it leveling out. Sounds like a quiet air compressor. When I remove the trailer you can hear a 'air down' sound like if you were letting air out of a tire. I've had it on both the 2011 and 2013 and sounds normal to me..

i think i said you CAN hear the air compressor running when its pumpin up the bags.. :)

the hbmc system should never be heard.

For clarity's sake, the issue is not with the air bags INFLATING, it is when the load is removed and the suspension is returning to "normal". The bleeder valve or whatever they use to deflate seems to make a high pitched sound.

I have heard it when it was super cold here (like ~-35C) so I figured it was just the cold playing around. But it did it the other day and it was quite warm....
