Have a 1997 I30 with 170k miles.
Recently when turning the ignition key, to start the engine nothing happens? I try it again and it starts just fine. it has been doing this for about 2 weeks and it is becomming more frequent. Any ideas what I should check first, or what could be casusing this problem?

Thanks

When you say "nothing happens," do you mean the starter cranks but the engine doesn't start, or the car acts as though the battery is dead?

If the latter, I'm going to suggest the contacts in your ignition switch are gummed up. I've not taken one apart on ani30/Max, however I've done it on other cars and it's not a tough job. You can clean up the switch, but they're not incredibly expensive either.

Something similar happened to me. All of a sudden, the last couple of days when I turned the key to ignition it worked fine but then trying to start it, nothing happened: the starter didn't crank. After a couple of tries, it would work, and it doesn't happen every time I want to start the car, just a few times. I hope it's not a starter problem..
