I was all ready to buy a new G37, but this dealer is having a $10,000 discount on their M35 due to terrible sales. They are literally the same price. Which one is better? (Note: these are both the highest trim model without any extras)

I liked the sportiness of the G37, but am willing to trade that for a large increase in luxury and ride quality if this is what I can get with the M35. It doesn't seem that the M35 really has any more features, though.

Please advise. I need some pros and cons of these cars and any advice.

I have an '06 M35 sport with all the options except the rear flip down LCD screen. While on a recent business trip to New York I rented a G37x. I was out in Yonkers, not the city so going from my hotel to the customer and back I was able to give it a workout.

With regard to sheer acceleration I have to say that the G37 has my M beat hands down. I realize it's a larger engine, AWD and less weight, but before I got married I had a C5-Z06 in the 12.teens so I know power when I feel it. This thing felt like being pinned to the seat. The sound at WOT was very nice too.

When it comes to overall comfort the M is king though. The layout of the controls (environmental and radio) were pretty similar, but I just felt awkward reaching for certain things. Also, I'm 6'0" so I felt a little cramped, but if I moved the seat back I felt as though I were out of position or something. It's hard to explain that feeling. It might just be that I'm used to the larger M cabin and the G offered me familiar surroundings, but less space so it threw me off.

Overall, I'd say your decision should be made based on what you value more:

G37: great power and a decent amount of luxury
M35: greater refinement, good power and space.

Either way you can't lose. They're both exceptional cars.

Good Luck,
Mike

edit: I had one other thing that annoyed me, but couldn't remember exactly what it was until today. When you start to drive off in the 'G' the doorlocks automatically lock. On the 'M' you have to lock the doors manually and I haven't been able to find a way to program this through the various menus. I think this should be a standard feature on the 'M' if it's available on the 'G'. Anyway, that's really the only thing I thought was missing from the 'M' that the 'G' had.

G37 vs M35

I have both a 2008 G35X and a 2008 M35X which my wife drives. We need one large car for family trips as both my children are 6 feet tall as are my wife and I. There is definitely more leg room in the back in the M. The trunk is larger, as well,

BUT

my G35X is much more fun to drive. I commute into NYC every day and drive on a windy parkway before getting onto the major highways. The G is much more fun to be in when going around the curves. This is my second G, and I just ordered a 2010 G37X as my current lease is ending.

As for the electronics, I don't know if they upgraded the navigation system on the 2009 M, but the navigation on the 2008 M35X is old technology compared to my 2008 G.

It is a tough call on which to get. The $10,000 discount is a big inducement.
Are you going to buy or lease? Another reason there is a $10,000 price reduction on the M is because Infiniti is coming out with a new model for the 2011 M37X. You can see it on their web site.

Good luck with your choice. They are both very reliable cars. One is just more fun to drive.
