For a while, every time I hit the gas pedal, there would be a clunk in the drive train that sounded a lot like a u-joint sloppiness on an older car. Then suddenly one day I cam to a stop light and as I hit the gas again there was a loud violent slam and now the car won't go forward or backward. The engine is fine and when it idled in this condition, you could kinda hear some metal scraping against each other when you put it into any gear, but it was more like a rubbing than a terrible squeal.
A tranny shop has drained the fluid and opened it up at the pan but they can't tell anything without pulling the transaxle/differential out of it and that's a 300 buck event. So, I'm saving my pennies for a used transaxle/torque converter that I found. Thats about $600 plus about $700-$800 to put it in.
The question for this forum is: Has anyone had a similar experience? This could just be a torque converter which would be a cheap fix, but it's expensive to find out. So, I'm soliciting any input from someone who has this car and had it happen to them. It could also be the differential, which is also a cheaper fix.
Any experienced input would be welcome
