Noticed the fuel pump whining tonight. Crawled under the car and it the high pitched whine is definitely coming from the gas tank. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have never experience that before, but it sounds like something could be caught in the pick up. This is probably highly unlikely because the pump should have a filter built in to it.

The good news is that if you are handy and careful you can check the tank for foreign items or if it is the pump change it out yourself.

The access panel to get to the fuel pump is under the driver side rear passenger seat. Three clips hold access panel on, once you take it off the pump is literally sitting right there. MAKE SURE YOU DEPRESSURIZE THE SYSTEM BEFORE ANY WORK IS PERFORMED!!!!!!!!!!! Once that is done, disconnect retainer ring (you should be able to use a flat head screwdriver driver and a rubber mallet. I put a rag around the screwdriver to be extra carefully.), undo the hoes connections and the plug. At this point you should be able to pull it, but be carefully and take your time, because the float is attach to it.

Installation is the reverse of this. If you don't feel comfortable with using a screwdriver I believe you can purchase the tool to take off the retainer ring, this will probably be the safe route.

So you access the pump from inside the car under the seat? That's cool I thought I would have to drop the tank! Either way I'm sure it is easier than replacing the manifolds ;)

i did...had it replaced. thought it was my timing chain exploding.
