I use the manual shifting feature on this car a lot in LA stop and go traffic. engine braking helps saving wear on the brakes.
I also use it when weaving into and out of traffic and when im feeling sporty and sassy.. :p

what say ye? do any of you cats use the manual feature?

what "manual feature"...?? is that like that 300+ page book in my glove box, or is it the name of the guy that washes the beast when I take it in for service... or is it the new water feature in front of the bellagio ... or is it the setting on the shifter that reminds me of grabbing my manhood as I shift gears??

I'm almost always in manual mode. For me it's even mandatory when I tow my 30ft trailer.

I just hate automatics transmissions.

i agree the manual mode rells pulls a bit of oomph out of the car. keeps me in control.

good to see someone on here uses it in manual.

@rough, you know what im talkin' about willis!.. ;)

Yeah I use the manual feature. I think it likes to drop to a lower gear to quick.
I would like it to stay in third instead of dropping to second on a couple right turns I make locally. I have to make sure I am pushing it to third immediately or it 'jumps' into second. Not good.
But I like the manual feature on the interstate.
Have a good one!

I have to admit, on my 2011, I don't understand how to use it. I see only a forward and backwards position for the shifter. For fear of manually dropping it into a too low of a gear at a higher rate of speed, I decided to leave it alone.

When you move the shifter to the left, it will be in the gear you already are. gear selected will be display. If you try to go up or down a gear when going too fast or too slow, it will beep beep at you not letting you screw things up. It will even downshift for you.

The cool thing about the beast manual mode is that it won't shift up gear by himself, you will it the rev limiter. So, when in manual mode, be ready to shift from first to second fast if you floor it!

Manual mode is useful on the interstate while on cruise control. I hate the fact that my QX is dropping 2 or 3 gears to keep the speed up on almost every incline. I just put it on manual and change from 7 to 6.

good points all..

to add: if you drop to manual, the tranny goes to 5th (this is ASSuming you are in 7th or 6th).

also as mentioned, the TCM and ECM know when to step in and prevent one form damaging the engine or tranny, so go for a spirited drive with the stick! I have a magaflow muffler (also removed the stock resonator in back) and the car ROOOARRSSSSSSSS when i put my foot in the tank whilst in manual!!!! :p

Do you have any video of your muffler setup/sound? I'd be interested to hear what it sounds like with an aftermarket exhaust.

i just have the muffler and no major cat-back system. the muffler alone lets the v8 growl and breathe much better than with the stocker and resonator.

im sure there are videos on youtube but it really is a nice growl. i think i took a video of it on a mobile phone camera back when i had it installed and the audio didnt do it justice...

yes, because the car is almost always in the wrong gear when going uphill. wish it just had a "sport" mode like my g35...

perhaps you need to reset the ECM?

I posted a thread on this site on how to do that. smoke it over. its free and takes a few minutes...

that's been done...i think it just relates to infiniti having this thing in higher gears/lower revs to improve fuel economy.
