dash board lights are out

my friend owns a 95 j30, her dashboard lights don't work

i asked her if it was a fuse, and she said probably not, because she used to be able to bang on the dashboard and lights would come back on intermittently, suggesting its a connection problem.

i told her i would try and fix it, can anyone offer any advice on what the problem is likely to be, how i can test it, and how i could go about fixing it?

any advice is really appreciated!

I had the same problem and banged on the dash to turn them back on. Solution is in the illumination roller switch on the left lower dash. The problem may only be a connection problem at the plug. I slightltly bent or adjusted the plug leads until i got a good connection.
