On a 2001 I30 I had the brake light switch replaced out-of-state (so i can't go back). After the repair my cruise control stopped working. The indicator light comes on but it doesn't "set." I'm thinking (hoping) that the mechanic just missed some connection but don't know where to look.

Something simple?

The cruise control "cancel switch" on the brake pedal is right below the brake light switch. You can make sure it's plugged in. Just lay under the dash in the drivers floorboard (not easy to do) and follow the brake pedal up to the steering column. You'll need a flashlight but you'll see the switches. The switch or plug for the cruise control switch is brown I believe and the one above it is black (for the brake light switch).

How to adjust?

Thanks Sideburns! I think you are on the right track. The brown switch is plugged in but it doesn't look like the button is fully engaged. (and you are right about it being a difficult position to get it under the dash). The black switch looks like the "neck" sticks out more towards the brake pedal and is engaged but the brown one is farther from the pedal. In that position it was had to see how to adjust it and since it is plastic i didn't want to force anything.

Can it be adjusted???

cruise control not working after breaklight switch repair

Greetings, we also have a 2001 Infiniti I30 and on 5/17/2013, the breaklight switch was replaced. Didn't drive it on 5/18, but on 5/19, when I hit the open road, I noticed cruise control was not working (never had a problem with that prior to this). Thought it might be too much of a coincidence and am glad to see others document the same problem. (Note to Michael at Infiniti Dealer: Andy owns the other half of the car and we are writing this together. -fannie)

On my 2001 I30, first cruise control stopped working just like @thirdbase mentioned. Next, the brake lights stayed on (as if I was breaking while driving) even after I shut off the ignition. this time I noticed small pieces of broken rubber pads on the carpet under brake pedal. Turns out brake pedal engages two switches - one for cruise control and the other for brake lights. Both switches themselves were working fine. However, the tip of each switch is pressed against a small rubber pad. Over time these rubber pads become brittle and crumble into pieces, which is what I saw under dashboard on the carpet. When they fall away, the hole into which they are pushed in no longer engages the switches. Depending on which rubber pad has fallen away either the cruise control won't work or the brake lights stay lit or both as in my case. I ordered 6 rubber pads on eBay for $7.50 (free postage). Dealer wanted $8.99 for each. All you have to do is get under dashboard, ask someone to press the brake pedal which leaves an opening for you to press new rubber stoppers into the hole in front of the switch. there are several YouTube videos for other cars which are all similar.
