Could car have DVD screens and not have DVD capabilities?

I bought a used qx56 yesterday. It has the built in rear headrest screens but I cannot get a DVD to play. When I insert DVD, it says disc is not readable. I also tried hooking Xbox to jacks and cannot get that to work either. The remote did not come with the car. Feeling very frustrated. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Katie!

What year is your QX56? The remote is helpful but only needed for someone to control things from the back seats. You should have been able to get the xbox to work by selecting Aux. If it didn't work I recommend having the dealer check it out.
 
Yup... not the most user friendly DVD/Entertainment system... I have to stop the darn car to get the DVD to play, as simply hitting the play button doesn't work, you have to scroll down to the play button on the darn menu for it to play. As to a non-readable DVD, make certain the DVD itself is clean (it's not a DVD u made yourself is it, such as DVD-r.. as those probably won't work)
 
Some DVD-R will play....they just have to be burned at a low speed. I make a copy of all the. Movies for the kids as they are bound to be damaged or lost.

Hmmm....roughyear...mine usually start on their own...I have found one neat trick that works for me with those DVDs that dont...after it starts playing hit the stop button twice then play and it skips the DVD home screen menu that you are mentioning...

I'll have to try that trick... stop x 2 and then play. But with my kids now grown, the DVD doesn't get used much (they just listen to their iPhone/iPods). I might have to find a new use for the DVD system.. such as a date night with Broomhilda and a new release Redbox movie!!

Just picked up a loaner QX.. how do u turn off the DVD players in the headrest without the remote control?
 
go into the settings screen on the nav display. there is a page there you can turn them off.
