Can anyone tell me why my '96 Infiniti I30 can't go past 2100 RPM?

When going into 2nd to 3rd (auto) the transmission cannot shift properly and will bounce from 2100 RPM to 1800 RPM before shifting. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? When i trying and rev the engine the highest it can go is 2250-2300 RPM.

When there is a sensor problem on a nissan (infinity, too), the computer will limit rpm to 2100 max. It is the only manufacturer that does this. Seeing how they usually shift at 3000rpm, this can be a pain in the ass until you have it diagnosed. I bet the "check engine" light is on, too.
Don't bother trying to diagnose and find the problem......nissan is not very forthcoming with information on even the wiring colors.....and I hate them for it. Real pain for even an expert to diagnose at times.

The engine has a governor on it to prevent higher revving of the engine. It is supposed to protect the engine or maybe it is set this way to increase fuel economy.

Something is definitely wrong. You need to seek a mechanic.
