Right after starting my 2012 QX56 with all the options, I sometimes hear a buzz coming from behind the instrument cluster along with being able to feel a vibration at the same time through the brake pedal to my foot. When I hear that buzz every 2nd or 3rd brake application, whether moving or standing still in park. I'm thinking it's a vibration being transmitted up there from the brake system

Anyone else noted this and found a cure? Anyway I'll have my service people look at it, although fearing being labeled a vibration neurotic but this is noticeable.

Try it for yourself, sorry if you now notice something unwanted that you didn't hear before!

hi,

i have a 2012 all options.
what you are hearing and feeling is most likely the ABS system testing.

I feel it each time i start the car. i also hear it. its normal. i even think the owners manual mentions this.

due to all of the automatic pilot type functions on this car, i am pleased to see it testing itself out.

i would think if you DIDNT hear or feel this that it would be a sign of trouble.

I think the initial vibration is normal, too, or at least feeling a normal function, but the buzz with a press of the brake pedal (every 2nd or 3rd press) is strange, but may be a testing procedure that is done periodically. Or there's a problem, or an unwanted vibration being transmitted from the brake system to something behind the dash. I'll have my Infiniti service people work on it.

I have a 2007 QX56 and I also hear the same thing, usually after a stop when I'm at idle.

Sorry to bring back an old topic, but this just happened again for me. The only times this has occurred outside the startup process has been when at altitude and cold weather on ski trips. I just got back from a ski trip and the vibration is back again. As noted above, it is after every 3 or so uses of the brake pedal and lasts for about 4 seconds. In the past it went away as I left the cold/altitude but this time it remains.

Has anyone else found a resolution?

I originate this thread, and after that I got Infiniti Customer Service involved and had it checked by my dealer and all say that it is a normal sound related to the automatic braking system function. Why it makes that noise every 3-4 brake pumps I have no idea. You know, I don't even notice at any more because I am used to it but it is still there. I do have a need for some service for some front end noise, prob warped rotors, and I will bring it to their attention again, perhaps there has been a service bulletin and a replacement part.

I'm thinking there's nothing to be done at all and just have to put up with it and maybe the 2013 or 2014 will be rid of it.

Anyone else found a cure?

the abs system on this car is quite advanced. its working even when you brake on streets with bumps or things like that. i feel it when its working and its just how the system is.

i dont hear it since i usually drive on dry paved roads here in SOCAL but just understand there is nothing that can be done to quiet this. its normal and a part of the ABS function.

I never hear it. Now to qualify that, I'm pretty hard of hearing, but it's my wifes car and if she heard it (and she can hear everything) I would know about it.

well good she should NOT hear it under normal conditions, however if you hit a slick spot, etc, it will make a groaning/buzzing noise near the brake pedal.

So good news bad news. I took my car in while it was still doing the vibrating pedal and the tech even felt it. Good news, they agree it is not normal. Bad news, it has now stopped of course and they have no idea what it is. They got Infiniti engineers involved and no one has ever heard of it.

Just to be clear, this is not just the 3-4 second sound you hear when you pump the pedal. It is a violent ABS like shaking of the pedal the accompanies the whooshing sound that is the problem. It is enough that you can put your hand on the car and feel the car shake. It happens regardless of the car being in motion, in park or actually being driven.

It only has happened twice and both times were on ski road trips. My theory is that slippery roads or altitude bring it out. The symptoms last about a week and eventually it goes back to normal. By normal I mean the whooshing sound you can hear, but lacking the violent shaking of the pedal.

I just need to wait until next years ski trip for my next visit to the dealer to figure it out!
