There seems to be alot of "smoke" coming from the exhaust pipe when I'm warming our new QX up in the garage (yes, garage doors open). It's filling our garage with exhaust. Seems really weird. The sales guy said it was the "coating" they put on in Japan burning off.

Is that fact or crap?

Thanks!

well i remember smelling the exhaust for the first few days as it "cured" so its possible. i dont recall any smoke and i dont sit and warm up the car before i drive off (i get in, turn over the engine and im off in about 25 seconds) so i cant recall if i saw any smoke.

depending on how short of a time you have had it, it could be just burn off of the coating on the inside...

smoke signals

Look up under it and see if they dripped undercoating on the exhaust pipe. Should only do it once or twice after driving it.

There are not any fluid spots left by your QX is there? If so maybe something is loose and leaking on the exhaust?
My dealer is 170 miles away, so if there had been anything on my pipe, it long burned off before I got home.

Is the smoke coming out the end of the exhaust pipe only when engine is running? If so take it bake and show them, pass by the salesman and go straight to service.
It is definitely not suppose to smoke when the engine is running, like burning oil.
Tell them.

Anti Corrosion Chemical

Since Infiniti is made in Japan, and shipped to the USA via ship, the undercarriage is sprayed with a chemical to help prevent pre-mature corrosion from the salt air well in transit

The QX has almost 7K miles now. I've had it under 4 months, yes I drive a lot.

So, I'm not really sure what to think about the exhaust. I did have them check it out at the dealership when I had my oil changed. They said it's a bigger engine and it has to move more air so I will notice more exhaust coming out...in comparison to my old Grand Caravan (yes, I said GC...the kids are finally old enough for me to drive a SUV again, yes!). I still notice a plume of "something" coming out. The weather is nicer now so I it's not steam. Do you guys have anything coming out that's visible??
