Brake Life for OEM pads?

How long have your brakes lasted? We bought our QX used with 21k miles, so I doubt they were replaced before we got it. I just passed 81k miles. I asked the dealer to check them yesterday when I went in for an oil change and they said I should be good for another 10k or so. That's what it looked like to me, but I was shocked to hear that on a beast this size. I don't exactly drive like a grandma.
 
I think the EBD has a lot to do with how they last now.....along with the fact that this SUV has massive brakes....lol
 
Brakes on the 12 I traded in passed the CPO inspection and were the ones that came on it.
No towing.
70/30 city/hwy driving with lots of hard stops in freeway traffic.

Brakes never squeaked or anything. Very impressed at how well they stop these tanks.
 
a service guy at the dealer i go to for maintenance and such, states the pads on these cars are thicker and last much longer.

ive 41k miles on the 2012 and i have 65 % left on front and rear.

depends on how hard one is with braking--this also affects the brakes...

I noticed a squeak in my brakes the other day and took it in to have it looked at. They said I only 2.5mm on the rears and they need to be replaced.

I bought mine new in 2011 and it has 57k miles on it now. I live up a rather large hill so that might be why mine haven't last as long.

I need to get new brake pads for my rears. I've noticed very little brake dust on my 2011 QX since I bought it, which makes me think they might be ceramic.

Does anyone know? I'd like to put OEM brake pads on it or at least the same specs.
 
I'm still on my original set at 68k and should be able to get to 85k before having to change them...these brakes are awesome...the ones on my M37 are horrible...at 62k on my second set along with new rotors...they seem to warp easily...I have to change the front pads and rotors every 25k on my GS...they eat the rotors up but no warpage...
 
more than likley they are OEM pads. nissan armada OEM pads were the same way, which is why i stuck with the across two armadas.

if you want to know the info on the pads, just call up the dealer.
 
:) You can't Guage how long brake pads should or shouldn't last by the number of miles put on a car. Not everyone drives the same way, if you ride your brakes or do mainly stop and start trips, then this will greatly reduced how long they will last.

Some things OEM is the way to go. But with brakes I would have to disagree, with going with OEM if you are wanting the best stopping power. I would suggest a set of EBC Green stuff 7000's on the front and 6000 pads for the rear. Or better yet go up one and get the Yellow stuff brakes.

I am about to put a set of Brembo 6 pistons on the front and EBC sport rotors (slotted and cross drilled) and pads on the rear.

Wow!!! For 5k they better stop on their own...if I was building a sports car or a track car...sure...but the brakes on the QX are already way above average...they stop this 3 ton wagon shorter than some sports cars.

Plus since I'm still under warranty im going to leave that alone...

Yeah....not so much when you are running 28" wheels.:D You definitely have to adjust your time when you start to apply your brakes. Buy doing this upgrade I will have a 3 ton wagon that stops on a dime and gives you 9 cents back. LOL
 
Ahhh....gotcha...lol

Upgrade those brakes...I wonder if that would effect any of the braking goodies in the tech package...
 
I thought I would follow up with everyone on this topic. Spent 2 hours today outside in the great 70 degree weather and installed the rear set of rotors and Carbon Kevlar pads.

A couple months back I checked with Infinity and they said my rear pads were getting close to needing changed. So I asked what they would charge. They wanted $400 plus tax, so I made the decision to do the work myself and buy better parts than OEM.

couple posts up shows different rotors and pads.

i am a fan of powerstop rotors and pads as the op suggests a couple posts up, however i have stayed with oem pads on my last two armadas and plan to do so on the qx. the experience i have had with oem has met my expectations, especially with driving in LA traffic.
