First of all I would like to say that I have a 97 infiniti I30 t. It is the best car I have ever had. It has made it through 3 Minnesota winters. I have 210,000 miles on it and it still runs perfect just a little louder than when I first got it. I have only had to replace the starter, ignition switch and blower motor.
I had this problem where my blower motor would go on and off when it wants. I did a lot of research online and everyone told me it was my resistor.
I went to 3 auto stores and no one had a resistor for my car. I asked them if it is possible my car dose not have a resistor. They said no I got no answers from them.
I went home and tried to find a resistor online to order and a picture of the same one that would be in my car so I could find it. I found nothing at all there was no listing for a 97 infiniti resistor.
I went to ask.com and asked the same question. Is it possible my car dose not have a resistor? I found out that I have climate control. If your car has a climate control heating system, which means you press the arrow up or down to set your temp for how warm or cold you want your car to get. You do not have a resistor you have a fan control amplifier. The fan control amp is right behind your glove box close to the blower motor.
I then called the auto stores and they had no idea what I was talking about. I went online and could not find and fan control amp for my car to order. I called the Infiniti dealership and he new what I was talking about he said he would have to order one which would have costed me about 350.00.
I decided to gently clean my amp a little bit and I put it back in. My blower motor started right up. The next day my blower motor was not working again. I was pissed so I reached under my glove box and smacked it as hard as I can with my and my blower motor turned right on. Kind of the same thing you do to your starter when it is going out. For the next week every time my blower motor was not working I hit it and every time it turned on. So if you are having this problem look under your glove box for the blower motor and hit it if it goes on you know it is your blower motor that needs to be replaced. This is something you should do before you start replacing your resistor or fan control amp no matter what car you have.
I spent 80.00 to replace my blower motor and it works perfect. The funny thing about this is that after all my troubles and people telling me to replace my non exist ant resistor. It was simply my blower motor the whole time. Just so you no the auto stores did not have the exact blower motor my car came with. I had to cut the harness and wire it manually. I also had to tape a mall piece of cardboard around the whole so it would fit tightly in the tube. Before you get your motor take the old one out and bring it in the store. You still need to keep some of the components form you old motor for your new.
I wrote this post because I noticed that lots of people are having the same problem and everyone assumes it is the resistor. So no matter what car you have if your blower motor dose not work jus hit it an see if it goes on.
