All 4 Rotors Resurfaced today

Well I hit 21,900 miles on my 2012 QX and decided I had enough of my brakes pulsating! It had been going on for a couple months. All 4 rotors needed resurfacing. I am still confused how this happens at this low of mileage. I drive at normal speeds, and don't brake very hard or abuse the brakes at all. All fixed but $350 later. Take care of your brakes!!
 
The vehicle is incredibly heavy and that causes lots of heat trying to stop. I used to have the issue with my GM product regularly. The advice was to go with OEM brakes and rotors designed for the vehicle, not NAPA non squeak brakes or anything like that. You also cant be a left foot braker keeping pressure on the pedal thus not allowing the brakes to cool. You also have to, and this part sucks, have them done at the dealership where they are familiar with the vehicle and how it brakes. They know how to replace them and what to grease, adjust, and check for proper performance.
 
I am New to the QX56, but wouldn't think it would be necessary to have the dealership do it. As long as you use new OEM rotors and replace the pads as well at the same time you will be good. I have changed multiple rotors and pads for different cars. Just remember to grease all sliding contacts to reduce friction which causes your pads to wear uneven.

I have been thinking pretty seriously in upgrading to 16" Brembro rotors and 6 piston calipers to slow down my 28" wheels.

Wow, you could have pushed that as a warranty item. I had the same issue at 48,000 miles and the dealer resurfaced rotors and replaced brake pads under warranty. Of course it helped that I took the QX56 to same dealer for all service work and already fed them lots of $$$.

my steering wheel wobbles moderately and my brake pedals vibrate someone when I brake hard... I guess I'm use to it. Do you think it's pads or rotors or both? I thought these were wear-tear items and not covered my warranty
 
If the steering wheel pulses/shakes/turns side to side it is definitely the rotors.
Braking is caused by friction on the rotor by the pad. Friction equals heat. How many of you brake hard to a stop and never let off the brake pedal until its go time?
That's like putting a blow torch to the rotor and what causes them to warp hence the steering wheel/brake pedal issues.
My uncle told me when I first started driving to always let off the brake when you came to a stop and if nothing else let the vehicle roll up a bit to a different spot on the rotor. It allows heat to dissipate faster and greatly reduces the problem.
I had one vehicle (Pontiac Gran Prix) in the early 90's that was a problem. As stated above I tried to lifetime brakes from Napa and various other sources. Ended up getting new rotors and oem pads. problem solved.
No other vehicle I have owned to date has been a problem and most of mine have been of the jumbo variety as compared to most vehicles on the road...
 
If you let off the brake while waiting at a light, your brake lights will be off and you risk being rear-ended as the guy coming up behind you thinks you're moving

If the guy coming up behind me doesn't have enough common sense to see if my tires are moving as well as all of the other cars in line with us then I'm about to have bigger problems than brake pads or rotors. :)

Your theory suggests every car with non functioning brake lights (there are many) would be rear ended. Obviously we all know that doesn't hold true.
 
There was a case here in Maryland a few years ago... a man rear-ended a car that was stopped at a light. The guy said to the cop/judge that he thought the car ahead of him was in motion, but as he approached and approached he realized too late that traffic wasn't going anywhere and could not stop in time. The man that was rear-ended told the police/judge that he routinely does NOT keep his foot on the brake pedal while stopped (for whatever reason, I can't remember). The gent was sighted for improper control and some other violation and the guy that rear ended him was not even charged for the accident, though you'd think he would.
 
That's crazy. Perfect case for a good lawyer who would make hay with that kind of layup opportunity.
Common sense. Often lost in toasts world.
 
Anyone ever try the Gold Duralast rotors on a M37? Are they any good? I'm getting vibrations during braking on my original rotors ( I think they are the originals, I purchased the car used).

On my 96 Maxima I had over 350K miles with out even having to turn rotors, never had any vibrations, those were great rotors... until I used Duralast brake pads that is. Those pads chewed my rotors up!
