The wife just informed me our 2011 QX56 with 15,500 miles just started flashing the airbag icon in the dash display. I stopped and restarted the car and gave it a chance to reset, but it stays flashing.

Any thoughts or ideas? I've always service my car at the dealership and supposedly the 15k service was performed. Thinking perhaps something may have been missed at the 15k service with regards to the airbag system.

possible a harness could have come loose. take it to to a local autozone or similar that has a DTC scanner. See if there are any DTCs to be pulled.

there are a lot of air bags so its not easy to pinpoint the issue unless you get the codes pulled.

Or you could just take it to the dealer and have them address it for free, as your truck is still under warranty.

Which is what I plan on doing.

I only posted to see if perhaps it may be a simple problem/issue that may have surfaced before and there was a simple fix.

I always use the dealership for all maintenance/service and also have the extended warranty.

anything dealing with the airbags in this particular car is not simple as you have so many bags and components in the system itself.

yes of course dealer is the way to go since its under warranty, but in a pinch and if you want to know what's going on ahead of you hitting up the dealer, stop (or better yet invest in a dtc reader) at autozone and let them scan for codes. this only educates you on what your car is telling you and later on after warranty you can have ideas as to what certain codes mean.

i know a lot about the Qx and armada inside and out and many times I have told the tech what to do when i had my last armada, especially on the HDD systems installed after the 2007 year.

i also use the dealer for everything.

Took my car into the dealer. Next day it was reported to me the driver side seat-belt was what caused the airbag icon failure. Resolution, replace the seat-belt under warranty. I'm not sure how the seat-belt failed in the first place on a 2011 QX56 with roughly 16,000 miles on it.

Nevertheless, I'm glad it's getting repaired.

On a side note, I was given a 2012 QX56 for a loaner vehicle until mine is repaired. What I noticed is that it seems to ride stiffer than my 2011 base model. I think this one may have the touring package which stiffens up the side of the vehicle in a turn .. not sure, but I dislike the ride.

15 days after the dealer repaired the problem .. it's back .. blinking away in the dash!

Re-work ..

Well now they'll give you the JX for a loaner... that's even worse.

Are u having any issues with the XM radio??? sometimes there's a connection issue there? Most likely, it's a harness issue as mentioned by Tronixx.

Look at this way... free gas for the day, curiosity of the $tealer.

I was getting a 'safety inspection' (required by Texas) and when I rolled out of the bay (few feet) and stopped .. I 'did' notice a connection issue (lost signal) momentarily with the XM radio. After turning car off and back on, I was able to regain XM signal.

The first time it was repaired, the dealer replaced the seat-belt strap, which did fix the problem temporarily. Today the dealer stated they have been in contact with Infinity Technical Support and have advised the dealer to replace the seat-belt receiver (short female end).

Hopefully, this will fix the problem for good.

November 4, 2013, took my 2011 QX56 back into the dealership (roughly 21,000 miles). The Air Bag icon began flashing again for the third time! Infinity replaced the entire drivers seat-belt and the driver side door air-bag. The same service person stated while attempting to check for 'fault' codes (after repairs) via their 'consult' they discovered their consult wasn't able to communicate with the vehicle. They also experienced the same issue with another model vehicle. So they are waiting to obtain a loaner consult from somebody or a fix for theirs.

I was also informed my battery failed their battery check/test and they installed a new battery under warranty (less than 24 months old). Interesting to note, I never had an issue with the batter beforehand.

As an aside, I've always had to call to obtain a status of my vehicle while at the dealership. Never once do they call and give me a status after the vehicle being their a few days. Perhaps I'm expecting to much ...

My two service reps always call to tell me if the car is ready for pickup or if it needs to stay the night... I'd be pissed if I didn't get a heads up as to the status of the car... speak with the Service Manager and say... "yo man, how 'bout an update on my ride... bitcha".

Seems like the dealer is trying hard to fix the issue.

I wish dealers would go to some sort of simple text updates to tell customers progress. My dealer told me my car would be ready in 3 hours so living an hour away I hung out in the area. I showed up 5 hours later after no call to find out they just pulled it inside when I arrived. I was pissed. Made the service manager have a porter drive my car and pick up the loaner at my house. Two days later I got a call asking about a survey and I told him "You really don't want me to fill that out". Never heard about the survey again.

I was informed yesterday they were replacing the entire harness which supports the ABS and quite a few other systems.
